reaction to cefalexin

My husband was prescribed this antibiotic on 23rd August for a urinary infection.

Since than he has felt unwell, with headaches, nausea, vomiting, listlessness, wheezing, tightness of chest, fever and sweating and diarrhoea. Oh and he's also been sleeping all day since starting to take them!

We went to our GP today and he has advised my husband to stop the cefalexin immediately and has prescribed trimethoprim instead.

Any one out there know how long after the last dose of cefalexin before the awful side effects disappear?

Thanks to this drug we have had to cancel our holiday because my husband feels so unwell.

My daughter was prescribed Cefalexin last Friday for a water infection (2nd time in 2 months) and since wednesday has felt violently sick, been sick, had high temperatures, joint pains, headache and hasn't got dressed or left the house since. She hasn't been able to eat since Tuesday. Emergency Dr said to carry on with the antibiotics when I rang on wednesday night. I am taking her to the GP surgery at 10am.

After visiting GP he took my daughter off Cefalexin and prescribed Trimethoprim! Plus something to stop her being sick!

She has improved a lot as she last took Cefalexin yesterday and the anti sickness tablets have helped a lot. She can now eat.

This is very interesting! I just googled cefalexin as have been on it for 4 days post surgery and still feel incredibly rough! light headed, nauseous, lethargic, havent been dressed or out the house in 3 days which is so not me. What is even more interesting is I have a history of allergic reaction to trimethoprin which it seems is the first alternative to Cefalexin so think its safe to assume its the drugs that are making me so ill! Oh well taken the last one this morning so hopefully I will start to feel better soon
