Reactive hypoglycemia and testing for diabetes.

Hi hope everyone is well.

I got told a few years ago (2013) that I have reactive hypoglycemia, I have a couple of questions one being what is the difference between reactive hypoglycemia and hypoglycemia. And also as I have been diagnosed with this can I go to my gp for a diabetes test just on the basis that I got diagnosed with reactive hypoglycemia a few years ago and would like to check that I still don't have diabetes? Thank you in advance for any info and replies.

As I understand it, reactive hypoglycemia, is not well understood. (old joke)

I don't know what a doctor makes of this, either a regular internist or a specialist endocrinologist. Hopefully they can handle your diabetes test and diagnosis in a regular way.

But there's a pretty easy solution in any case - just get and use a home blood glucose meter like most diabetics do. Measure before meals. Measure one hour after meals and two hours after meals. Measure whenever you think you might be having a hypo attack. Doesn't even have to be before and after each meal, but the more the better.

I think this is what the doctors will tell you to do anyway - but if you already have the meter as part of your hypoglycemia management, just bring in the numbers!
