reactive lymphocytes, worried I have cancer

Hi,

I'm a healthy 25 yer old male. I've had a swollen lymph node in my neck for 5 years. When I mentioned it to my doctor recently, she sent me for an ultrasound and a blood test. The ultrasound showed a normal node (that is slightly prominent) and reactive lymphocytes. I since had a second blood test 2 months later, which also showed reactive lymphocytes. Additionally, I remember getting a blood test years ago, and the Dr said it appeared that I had a viral infection (So I'm guessing there were reactive lymphocytes then too.

Could this suggest some kind of chronic infection?

My main concern that I'm very stressed about is the possibility of leukaemia or lymphoma. Help!

Thanks

Hi mich11. I think your doctor shd refer you to a hematologist who can properly diagnose your blood test results. They know what the results mean, because it is their area of expertise. Just tell your doc you want to see a hematologist. Best wishes and hope you get diagnosed soon.
