Ready to give up 😢

If feel ready to give up, just starting my 7th week of sertraline 4weeks on 100mg

But i feel like im bad to day 1! Anxiety is taking over my life again and ive had constant stomach discomfort for 3/4 weeks!

And in the last few days ive done the silly thing and googled it and my fear was it would say colon cancer and thats what came up , stomach dicomfort can be a sign of cancer! 😞

I honestly dont think ive felt so low as i do now, and all the Drs will say is its the anxiety or tablets cauing it, they wont listen to my worry its cancer

Sorry to go on

    Hi Adam,

I had same side effects as you.  I was on it almost 6 weeks, but the anxiety was so bad I couldn’t take it anymore.  I wasn’t even taking it for anxiety, I started it for severe depression.  The Dr switched me yesterday.  He said the side effects will go away eventually, but it could take weeks more.  He says if you are having strong side effects, that’s a good sign that it will work for you.  If you do have to switch you will not have to go through the same amount of side effects, he says you pick up from where you left off.  If you can cope with the side effects I would try to stay on it.  If it’s just too much, I would switch to something else.  Zoloft has very strong side effects in my opinion, and I’ve tried many over 20 years.  I had to take a 1/2 Xanax just to be able to stop pacing around all day.  I had the stomach discomfort also, I highly doubt it’s cancer, since that is a side effect.  Try not to panic about cancer, and think the worst.  It sounds like the medicine.

You can go to a gastroenterologist and have a colonoscopy, but it sounds like the medicine.  I’ve had problems with my stomach for years, I had a colonoscopy and they found nothing.  Sometimes you have to separate the fear from what is really happening.  I know it is really hard.  I’vd dealt with anxiety most of my life.  I tell myself not to panic.  Even if there is something wrong panicking will not help.

Good luck with what you choose to do.  We are here to help and listen.

Hi Adam I've got 6 weeks today I started on 100mg from the get go via a straight swop from 40mg citalopram. I have had about five days around week 4 that were good but by an large it's been horrendous. I am not experiencing improvements as yet either and I hit week 5 and my duahorrea came back with a vengeance ..ive read it's pretty normal for the ups and downs and to feel like you are moving forward then back...although I can't give you hope I reckon I can reassure you that I feel the same and to tough it out longer I have in my mind 3 months to see how I feel then ..stay in touch

      Hi Kelly,

I switched to Fluoxetine (Prozac.). I could not handle the anxiety from the Sertraline.  The Dr told me the side effects will go away eventually if you can hang in there.  I was on it a little over 5 weeks, and just couldn’t handle it. I had to take Xanax every day.  If you can make it hang in there.  Otherwise there are other options, so far anxiety is ok on day 4 of the Prozac.

      Hi Adam,

I switched to Prozac (Fluoxetine.) I didn’t have any withdrawal surprisingly.  I was off of it for 3 days.  Can you see the Dr soon so you can switch to another one?  My Dr says I am not starting over by switching, but if you go too long it will be totally out of your system and you will have to start all over with side effects.  The fluoxetine has not given me the anxiety side effect.  It is so much better.  Maybe you can try this one instead.  The Sertraline (Zoloft) nearly killed me with anxiety also.
