Real ghsv1 transmission rates & testing time

Posted , 2 users are following.

Does anyone know the actual statistics on transmitting hsv1 genital to genital? And how much lower that's taken by the infected person being on daily valtrex, but no condom? I've read it's 4% normal, then 2% with the meds... but is this correct? What are the real chances of it being spread?

Also how soon after possible exposure can you be tested? Four days after exposure I was tested positive bc I had an ob. But what if you don't have one? This guy is freaking out about it and saw online you had to wait weeks to know. Is this right or can it be done sooner?

There are no studies on genital-to-genital HSV1 transmission. The study you saw is for HSV2 only, and only under certain circumstances. Having said that, gHSV1 would be lower risk. With lesions, you can test immediately by swab. Without lesions, you can test by IgG at 1-2 months, but it cannot be considered conclusive until 3+ months. IgM is never advised, but doctors will still order it out of ignorance.
