Really anxious about not sleeping

Posted , 4 users are following.

This past week I've been sleeping badly but the last two nights were awful. The day before I had to get up super early for a flight so didn't sleep much and last night I had to keep on going to the toilet as kept needing to per all the time! I barely slept. It's gotten to the point where I don't know if I slept because I felt I was awake but a lot of time has passed and I haven't been checking the time. Does anyone else get this?

Last week my sleep has been poor as I've been depressed. I'm worried I won't sleep tonight? I'm absolutely shattered.

Yes, I sympathise!  The more we worry the more we do not sleep, I was awake at 5 o clock this morning I put my radio on.   I have had many nights exactly what you described, I feel as if I haven,t been sleeping, my mind was thinking and the constant going to the toilet.  The more we worry about not sleeping it becomes a vicious circle.

    Hi Monica,

Very sorry to hear about your sleep problems.  It can worry you quite a bit when you aren't sleeping.  One of the biggest hurdles for me early on was getting over the fear of not sleeping.  The thing that eventually did it for me was just going on about my business if I didn't get a  good night's rest.  i would wake up sometimes after only getting a couple of hours sleep and instead of focusing on how bad I felt and dreading the day ahead, I kept a positive attitude and dove right into my day.  Yes, it's easier said than done but it makes all the difference in the world in how you feel. Also, once you get over your fear of not being able to sleep at night, ironically, you will be able to sleep better.

What led to this bout of insomnia?  You mentioned something about depression, which is an old pal of insomnia.  Many, many of the folks that post in this forum (including myself) have insomnia that is tied to anxiety and depression.  Have you ever seen a therapist for your depression?
