really bad depression

Hi everyone,
I have been on the hipreplacement section of this site since I had a hip opp last nov, but I also suffer from cronic depressionand have done long before I had the opp, anyway I thought I would ask you guys about my meds, I have been on 150mg of sertraline since sept.2013 and as yet I feel no difference, its hard to explain the way I feel, but here goes,
I'm constantly tired, can't sleep at night even though I'm tired and yawning, when I do sleep I have vivi dreams about the past and when my parents were alive , my kids were young, past boyfriends, etc. when I wake up it's like a giant hammer of dome comes down on me, feelings of no life , no point to anything anymore, like the whole world has a life and a reason to get up in the morning,I also think about dying a lot ( I'm a young at heart 64 yearold lady)I am a very strong willed and positive person, but this awfull feeling of impending doom has got me beat, also I feel nauseus, dry mouth, so I was thinking of coming off them as it's been so long now it's obvious they not working, when I told my gp he said best to stay on them, any advice would be welcome, I want my life back!!!
regards,
Lynne.

i am new to this site. I have depression and anxiety. I take sertraline 50mg at present. I was on venlafaxine but had to come off it due to panic attacks and being awake all night.
You have been on the sertraline for a long time, it doesn't seem to be working for you. I would take medical advice before stopping it. You may need to change meds. Try a different Dr, second opinion? Is there a CPN, counsellor that you could speak to, they may support you at Dr visits (or a friend or relative)
I hope you get some support soon. Take care Katie

Get a second opinion. Meaning, see a different GP at the same practice.
The sertraline is obviously not right for you! Do not just stop taking them, as 150mg is close to the highest dose and you could become quite ill. Seek medical advice. The GP who told you to stay on them is probably hoping that they work for you, as withdrawal will be hard.
Take care!

I would consider getting a second opinion about your situation. From research I have done Sertraline is a nightmare to come off, hence the reason many many Doctors advise to stay on it. If you do decide to come off it be very careful how you do it,with being on it so long you need to taper down slowly, not weeks slowly, months slowly to help avoid any nasty side affects.im half way through the process of 50mg-25mg-0 after only being on it for a period of 5months,I am doing it very slowly & I am still experiencing unwanted side affects,it feels like severe alcohol withdrawal & it seems to strike at nights when I'm relaxed & doing nothing so my advice to you is be careful.good luck with everything & I'm sure you will pull through.
