Really bad health anxiety right now. What should I do?

For the past week now, I've been dealing with symptoms that match with UTI symptoms that I had before which were mild common symptoms, but I'm really worried on catching a kidney infection very quickly and I honestly can't sleep since I'm really scared. I did call my doctor yesterday and I have an appointment later today with him where he will check on me, should I be worried though right now or does it take awhile for a UTI to lead as a kidney infection? I've been drinking a lot of water and been taking cranberry supplements almost every day until I get checked. My anxiety is making me believe I'm in huge danger right now and that I should probably go to the ER right now. I have always been a healthy person and rarely get sick. I'm in my early 20s and my anxiety always makes me think negative. Should I be concerned right now and go to the ER or wait for my appointment later today? The only symptom worrying me the most is tingle sensations down there, not sure if that is a common UTI symptom.

if you have an appointment today with your doctor, do that first. You may not even have an infection and even if you do it’s not going to immediately affect your kidneys. Sounds like your anxiety is causing these scary negative thoughts. UTIs are very common. If you have one, your doctor will most likely prescribe an antibiotic. hang in there you’re gonna be OK. remember that 99% of everything we worry about. Does it happen.

Thank you Jan for the positivity, I really appreciate the response and reassurance and I'll definitely wait on seeing my doctor today instead of going to the ER right now. Just trying to stay calm for now until I get checked out in a few hours left, but it's good to know that the kidney infection doesn't happen that instantly, that was my major concern I didn't want to experience.

    Hi Shanny,

really sorry that you're having trouble with anxiety and hope that you're feeling better now. Believe you me, I know exactly how you feel!

Tingling sensations are very much an anxiety symptom for many people, myself included... even down there sometimes...

Anxiety is a normal fight flight response. Your body is just trying to prepare you for what your mind is tricking it into, just remember, anxiety is not harmful. Try not to respond to 'what if?' thoughts as you cannot tell the future, there's very little point in guessing the outcome of something that hasn't happened.

I know this sounds like the opposite thing you should do, but try not to stop worrying about things as it will only make it worse. If I tell you not to think about a yellow triangle, I bet that you do, and if I tell you to try and stop thinking about a yellow triangle, I bet you can't...

The best advice I can offer is to try and distract yourself with things that you enjoy doing, it doesn't have to be anything really strenuous or difficult, just something you enjoy. Be kind to yourself 😊

You will come through this, but I really hope that you feel better soon.
