Really need advice - does this sound like Endometriosis?

Posted , 3 users are following.

I’m 40 and for the past 2 years my periods have been getting more frequent and painful. My cramps have always been severe but they’re getting so bad that Advil doesn’t touch the pain anymore. I’ve never had kids and my hormones all checked out as normal, but I’m getting my period every 17-18 days. I’ve had bad reactions to birth control in the past so I’m scared to try again and my insurance won’t cover Lo Loestrin. I have nausea and cramping between periods, occasional shortness of breath, and alternating bouts of diarrhea and constipation. My doctor doesn’t seem concerned but I’m going crazy! Should I get a second opinion? Does this sound like Endometriosis? I just don’t know what else it could be. Is a laparoscopy the only way to find out for sure? Thanks!

    Hi Kleo:

Yes, you need to see another gyn. If you can get to an endo specialist, do it. Otherwise you'll hear that you are too old to suddenly have endo. I of course can't say that you have it but i can say your symptoms sound like many here. We've got women in their 30s & 40s whose endo is discovered when docs are doing other procedures, so you're not the only woman in that boat.

Docs may blow off your diarrhea-constipation issues or shrug & say IBS. It could be that but it can also indicate that you've got spots on your intestine, and if so, they need attention.

Yes, laparoscopy is the only way to know definitely. You may be forced to go through many gastro tests before anyone will consent to a lap.

    Good luck.

Yes, it sounds like I need a second opinion. There’s got to be something causing this. Thanks so much for the advice.

I would definitely try to find a doctor that cares about your symptoms. Getting a second opinion is a great idea.
