Really painful stomach pain no diagnosis 20 year old male?

Hey everyone,

For the last 6 months of this year I have been having really bad stomach pains and I have been suffering with gerd and ibs for the last 2 years now. I have been off and on Nexium 40mg in the last 2 years for short periods at a time and 6 months ago I had a gastroscopy whilst still on Nexium and a colonoscopy a month ago also.

I was only on the Nexium for 3 weeks prior to the gastroscopy but my question is could the Nexium possibly mask cancer or any other abnormal things I was reading up on this article?

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1114430/

They did do a biopsy of my stomach as well which showed some mild inflammation but nothing else other than that they said that I was clear and "my stomach looked good". Would it maybe be worth re-doing the gastroscopy at some point? They have just been unable to find a diagnosis of what my stomach pains are and Nexium really just made me feel worse. I have numerous blood tests and I have had the h.pylori breath test as well but again I feel this may have come up as a false negative since I take probiotic yogurt and yakult daily?

The symptoms I am having are this feeling of a painful ache in the center of my stomach it kind of feels like a sore there that comes on a little while after eating food along with some lower gi problems of gas, bloating and alternating stool patterns with sometimes undigested food but my biggest complaint would definitely be my stomach pains.

Can anyone recommend anything else I can try or do? I am just suffering really badly and I don't know what else to do.

I have done quite a bit of research as well about sibo, parasites, low stomach acid but I am not sure what I can do to test for those?

Any help and tips would be much appreciated I am just so sick of feeling miserable and in pain every day and the doctors now fobbing me off sad

Its a bacteria. I was in agony and burning all day and nigtht for months. All tests and scope was negative. 11 doctors couldt not find out what it was. Finally a doctor said, put him on a tripple cure. Day after treatment the burning was gone in stomach. 2 weeks later no more gerd. But be carefull and use step down managment on ppis..

I'm not on PPI's anymore I came off them straight after my gastroscopy 6 months ago since it came out clear and I have been off them ever since they were uselessanyways. I have a strong feeling it's bacteria especially since I had this ear infection 2 years ago and was put on 4 or 5 different antibitoics and thats when my digestive issues really started and now this pain in my stomach but is there any way to prove that it's bacteria? I am just in so much pain and it's every day not just here an there I honestly can't take it anymore it's making my life so miserable especially seeing everyone else my age having fun and partying with no worries in the world

I promise you. I took every test mand kind can think off. Helicobacter 6 times. Breathing and blood. Always negative. Stool sample always negative. Tube i swallowed tree times. X rays, mris.. ultrasounds... And so on. Uvi negatives. On the hospital 4 times. I wanted to wreck my car in a stone wall sometimes because of the pain. All the doctors would put it down to anxiety and stress. I have never had anxiety or stress. But i told the doctors i have sll this stress and anxiey because of the pain!! I promise you. Ask for carafate, nexium and 3 kinds of antibiotics. It will go away.. I used 9000.- dollars before i found a doctor who said we try this. Im so glad i did! I tried evry ppis out there and nothing worked. But this combo did. Sorry for bad english. Im from Norway. He said that some times evrything is false negative.

That's all they have been saying to me is that it is stress and anxiety and i've never had that in my life until this pain came on, I am not sure they would even give me antibiotics without some sort of proof that is the problem I am having

How long did that take to work for you that combo?

You are likely to be having an IBS flare up.  Try the Low Fodmap diet or a food diary to find out what foods could be triggering pain.  Come off Nexium to see if it has been causing an increase in stomach pain.  This can happen with Nexium.  Prior to an endoscopy or breath test, come off PPIs and probiotics for two weeks before these tests to ensure an accurate result.

Do probiotics affect the result of the helicobacter breath test as well they only said that I had to be off of antibiotics for 4 weeks but that was it?

Some probiotics may kill some of the h pylori bacteria but not all of it.  The amount left behind may be too small to be detected by the breath test so you may get a false negative.  Some probiotics affect stomach acid production and could also skew the breath test because the breath test relies on stomach acid to work effectively.  It depends on the probiotic you are taking.  I would stop the probiotics just to be on the safe side.  Check with your doctor too.

    Hi Daniel,

I have similar problems and have had every test possible and told it is mild gastritis and Ibs. I was taking nexium for a month and it made no difference at all and if anything made me feel worse.  I was swapped to somac and that helped me quite a bit but since my recent ph level testing I had to stop ppi for a week prior and haven’t gone back on. I’m currently trying slippery elm and Licorise tablets (natural) to see if it can help before I go back on ppis. I hope you feel better soon.

How is the slippery elm bark working?  I just ordered some.  Good you got off the PPIs. They are only meant for short term use, but the doctors don't tell you this.  Put Omeperazole in the search bar and read some of the posts.  They can cause Osteoporosis, which is what happened to me, after being on them for about 12 years, not knowing this could happen.  I'm in the process of getting off of them right now--slowly. Just some food for thought

      Hi Lindy,

I feel as though the slippery elm bark is working just as well as the ppi did for me. I am on day 5 now and going well. It can be hard to down some days because of its consistency but I just do it anyway because it helps me. The ppi were mucking my bowel movements and pain up and since stopping I get less abdominal pain and my bowel movements are much more normal now. I hope it works well for you also. Let me know how you go.

I've had every organ in my body tested and doctors refuse to do any further testing and i've been to a number of gastro specialist who all say the exact same thing that it's just ibs and gerd and that I should just change my diet and remove trigger foods they don't seem to have any more answers for me and I am sick of spending so much money on all of this with no answers as to what is wrong.
