Really stiff and sore finger joints...

Just wondered if anyone could help? About three months ago my middle finger's second joint on my left hand became really sore and very stiff (especially in the morning). I had to use Voltarol to take the discomfort away and noticed that it was swollen and very sore to touch (but not full of fluid). Then it settled after a few weeks and I hoped it was just a random thing.

Then about three weeks ago a couple of finger joints on my right hand have started to do the same thing and I am waking at night with pain and a lot of stiffness. In the morning it is as if they are 'stuck' in the same position and after a little while they come back to life (although remain sore throughout the day).

Do you think it could be the start of a kind of Arthritis? Not sure if I should go to my doctor or just buy some joint vitamins or if anyone can help shed light? I eat really well and look after myself, take exercise and starflower and fish oil supplements.

Many thanks

Hi Nerwbod went to hospital yesterday as I had been waiting on appointment for very same as you, now 3 locking stiff fingers and sore, I was also given blood tests for shoulder and arm pains and was thinking I had Polymyalgia but blood tests have now showed no PM in my blood. Now going for more further tests in 3 weeks, however went yesterday to hospital and saw doc re fingers locking and stiff, he was going to give me steroid injection but because I was given Presidone 40mg daily for a week (last week) he did not want to do it and now I will wait 3 weeks again for injection. He is quite positive injection will work,  he also did say he thought it might be arthritis as he noticed an couple of the joints on my fingers above the nails were a wee bit lumpy, this is just recently. I would be pleased if I did not have Polymyalga but further tests will confirm this, he gave me Naproxen pain relief instead of Ipobrufen as I was taking big doses with no results. Naproxen has eased of the pain in my arms and shoulders.  I hope this info might help you. Good luck.

Hi Betty I know this is an old post but read it and wondered if the predisolone and injections helped you in about to start with them! Did you have any side effects thanks

I had this problem from the 1st week of December 2015. The GP had it xrayed and suggested light exercises of the fingers. Not much help as the hand would become numb middle of the night and would have painful nights. During the day there was not much mobility in the middle finger. My golf was affected. Visited the "Pain Specialist" in 1st week of March 2016. One injection in the finger joints, a couple of days of numbness and now I am once again as good as I could be. My advice to Newbod is to visit the Pain Specialist.

B12 injections could be of great help. A huge amount of people are deficient and arthritis and other problems are the symptoms. I would advise you take a close look at the foods you eat.  Wheat products can inflame joints in some people. I find there tends to be a cause - effect relationship with ills withinin the body. Intermittant fasting may also be of some help.

I am having the same problem. At first just my middle finger on my dominant hand began with trigger finger. Then within a couple of weeks problems with fingers on my left hand began. But, the worst of all of them now is my thumb on my right hand. My fingers feel swollen, the joints are all stiff and makes it hard for me to close my hand...and now I'm waking up in the mornings with my hands and fingers numb. Sometime they sting and other times they burn and sting. I've been to a General Practicioner twice and he just smiles and dismisses it. I've been tested twice through blood work to see if I have arthritis and the blood work says no. I'm 57 years old and all of this began about 5 months ago....I'm depressed and confused about what to do since the doctor just seems to want to ignore it rather than get to the root of the problem....I need help.😔

I also forgot to mention that when I open my palm wide open that it is impossible for me to straighten my middle finger on my right hand. It stays curled downward slightly. And if I try to force it straight by grabbing it with my left hand, the right middle finger pain is excruciating.

My EXACT issue. I saw my doctor a month ago, and the issue with my right, middle finger had begun a month before that. I'm in my 3rd month of my finger having excruciating pain, and stiffness, and swelling. When I take it out of the splint to wash my hands or shower my finger curls down, and to try to straighten it is painful and useless. I also have horrible pain in my upper back, spine, and neck. Left foot and knee I have manageable pain, and leg cramps in my right leg 4 times in the night. What the heck is going on?! On top of the fact that my left groin lymph nodes have been enlarged for 3 months.

I have had this problem for a cpl of years..had all the tests and xrays and steroid shots..nothing helped...temporary band aids..

All the tests came back negative for arthritis..now my feet are getting just as bad...the one thing the mri did find was that my neck was pretty bad..

I had every symptom you all are talking about....I have been living on aleve and gabapentin....helps but not a whole lot...

I believe it is from my neck.....

Gotta wait til I have another insurance before I can have surgery....mornings are hell....

I have experienced the same symptoms for the past two months. First it started with soreness in right elbow than began in joints below buttock, hips, feet, knees. Shooting pain hit different parts of body at random times, really weird. Numbness and tingling in arms, hands and fingers can adjust the way I am sitting or sleeping and it seems to subside to a dull pain. I do have soreness in back and neck alot. This is very nerve racking and upsetting. I would appreciate any suggestions, and would like to feel better again.

It comes and goes.  I have a painful knee and sometimes get neck and shoulder pain.  I was given Naproxen but it upsets my stomach.  My GP  doesn't seem overly concerned and just prescribes tubes of Feldene gel which doesn't help much.

Blood test shows no arthritis. I have no idea what is causing my trigger finger and swollen joints. I was give a weeks dose of prednisone and received no relief. I can see from many posts that multiple doctors visits only bring large medical bills with no relief. I have also noticed that some of the posts say the trigger finger goes away during the times they're very active. This is also the case for me. The positive I can add is that when I owned a therma spa hot tub before selling my home up north I never had the problems I am having now. I'm sad to say that when we sold our home that the hot tub stayed there. I now live in Florida and wish I had brought the hot tub with me when I moved. Short of buying another quality hot tub, I feel this problem I'm having will continue without resolve.
