Reassurance for anyone undergoing laparoscopic surgery!

Hi everyone,

Like many of you i was told i had an ovarian cyst (i had multiple, the biggest being 10x8 cm, and a couple of smaller 2-3 cm ones on my left ovary). Didnt know what type they were and surgery was the only option of removal. I was worried sick! I think i read through pretty much anything thats on the internet regarding cysts, surgery, complications, recovery- all of it. For me it ended in emergency surgery due to the cysts rupturing and leaking fluids into my abdomen causing undescribable pain- but thats not the topic of this post.

The surgery that happened on the 12th of dec wasnt half as bad as i thought it would be! Not one of my worst fears in relations to the surgery happened. I had a laparoscopic procedure. I had literally no pain when i woke up and havent had since. I could pee and walk (albeit a lot slower) the same day. I walked home the day efter surgery with my husband and it was fine. Sat on the couch taking it easy the rest of the night, ate a lighter supper. Havent had any gas pains whatsoever- which i was almost certain i would. There is a slight discomfort having bandages on your belly and getting comfortable in bed and showering and so on- but please be reassured its not too bad at all! I was told beforehand that i might end up losing the ovary- but i didnt. They had to take a piece when removing the cyst, but told me the ovary should recover.

I realize everyone is different and that procedures such as these are way worse on some people- but if i can put anyones mind at ease this was worth posting. It might turn out to be a lot easier than our minds lead us to believe : )

Best of luck to anyone in this situation, and feel free to ask me anything.

Merry christmas in advance to all of you fellows. There is hope!

    Hello ,

I just had a laparotomy yesterday and went home the same day,,  I’m experiencing pain but still getting up and staying on top of my meds.. I’m experiencing blurred vision but it could be the patch they gave me behind ear... I took it off just now and hopefully start to feel better withthat. I get some pain in shoulder are but that should subside eventually .

The surgery wasn’t bad but they did take one ovary because it kept thinning out as she was taking the cyst off!! I have a 4 inch scar and u can’t see  it unless I pull my clothes down far so that was good she did it that way!!!!

    Best of luck
