Rebound Pain in Femur/Front Thigh

Hello Fabulous Hippies,

I'm just about 12 weeks post THR and recently developed a weird rebound-like pain in my femur/front thigh. When I'm exercising and put weight on the surgical leg, it's good. But then, the moment I release the pressure by shifting the weight to my non-surgical leg, BOOM! Intense pain in the surgical leg. It goes away within moments but is very disconcerting.

Has anyone else experienced this?

That's odd. Ever since my hip replacement a year and a half ago, the outer middle part of my quad gets tight fairly easily. If I work out real hard, the next day I have to massage a knot out of my upper thigh/quad. Sometimes if I'm balancing on one leg for a minute (during yoga) it'll hurt a bit when I first release the pose. it's more like a muscle tightness than a sharp pain though.

      Hi Matthew,

When I have been balancing in pilates I have to stop and slightly bend to relive the pressure off the operated leg, not pain just uncomfortable, eighteen months post op next week. It is reassuring that someone else has this, so maybe not uncommon when balancing on the operated leg.

Maybe it's still early days for me. I see my physio later this week and will see what he has to say.

This could be where the new implant joins the bone. I had something similar to this and the surgeon told me it might be that, as the bone is still hardening. For me it’s now gone (1.5 years out) and I only very occasionally get any pain at all in that area- ie if I land hard.

My personal trainer/kines told me that the bone likely softened due to lack of us (for 2 years when I was struggling to walk.) He thinks the implant may be moving a tiny, tiny bit and this is causing the pain - until the bone hardens again. Thanks!

I'm 12 weeks out from full hip replacement. it's still a little sore when I excercise the doctor told me it was normal and just listen to my body.

could be Micro erosion the bone has not hardened enough around the stem. Happened to me at 3 months from too fast on the TREADMILL. DOC said take it easy for a month and it we t away and has not returned after 3 years

Yes adiebabie,I know exactly what your're feeling.Pain in and around the joint affected upon releasing the weight pressure on that joint. It doesn't last long but by eck it hurts. Have mentioned it to my physiotherapist who said he hadn't heard of that one before but it sounds like bursitis. What's that?

My operation was in late March so a good 6 months ago. I know what my doctor would say, if it hurts after standing on one leg, then don't do it !! * would be interested to know what yours says.

At 12 weeks my slight problem is the other way round. After sitting or lying for a while, the first few steps, putting weight on is uncomfortable enough to make a limp. After that i can walk fine for half an hour. It started after i had a strenuous time up and down steps. I think it is getting better but looks like i need to watch out for a bit longer.

I have been experiencing this EXACT pain and this is the first place I found it!!! This post started 16 months ago so im not sure if any of you are still on, but would love to know if any of you ever found out what this pain is from??

My surgeon also thought it could be where the implant is and bone growth around it etc. So he ordered a nuclear bone scan(not bone density scan) and it came back normal. So who knows?

I honestly feel like that's what its from and weakened muscles around it. I get knots all up and down my quad and IT band from this pain its horrible! I am 14months post op. been dealing with this since 4months out. im hoping you guys are all doing great and not having this pain anymore!
