Recent flare up with LS

Last week had one of the worse flare ups of my LS. Decided to goggle "Causes of flare up with LS", from which I found this site. Surprised to find so many afflicted with this disorder, started reading the posts and learned about foods to avoid (went to a birthday party before flare up and consumed a large amount of cake and icing and even brought some home!!). Also normally eat dairy (cheese mainly). Stopped eating any sugar and less cheese, stopped using soap down there and got some vaseline along with using my RX prescribed. Almost completely clear of symptoms in less than a week!! None of the physicians I've seen have advised me of any of these remedies to try. Thanks to everyone for their posts, so glad to have found this forum.

Good thinking - stop with the sweets. Cheese used to be one of my triggers as well. Only goat cheese for me.
?Indeed, the doctor won't talk about foodstuffs. Meanwhile here on this site we know that added sugar is aggravating LS for sure. And leaving out soap, wair cotton underwear. And the use of coconut oil for lubrication. Etc. You probably have read the various topics and picked up on what works for many.
?Wishing you well.

That's where I have the most pain, between the vagina & anus and I also had an episiotomy with my first born. Will try Aquaphor and is Emuaid cream about the same as Emu Oil?

So difficult to find the right thing to apply.
Which emu oil is the best to use. I also had an episiotomy for my first child. I’m. 70 so that was many moons ago. Do u think after all these years it can cause splitting?

Aquaphor and Hydromol OINTMENT not cream will be fine there is nothings in them that will irritate you and they act better as a barrier too. I souls see how you get on with one of those before a fortune on the more 'exotic' products is my advice. good luck and let us know how you get on Maryella xx

Borax seems to be quite popular. My dr said NO to that

Not being disrespectful to Drs but they know next to nothing about LS, I'd sooner take a recommendation from ladies on here who are dealing with the condition than a Dr who took months or in lots of cases years and years treating us for THRUSH !!!! 😠 my advice is to not try too many things, stick to your steroid and a barrier/moisturiser until everything's had been good for a few months then if you want introduce sometimes you'd like to experiment with. That way if you react, you know it souls probably be the new product.xx

I agree with you! and yet it never ceases to amaze me how many women blindly follow their doctor's suggestions, often sending them down the wrong path for months and sometimes years.
But, what really gets my goat is when women are sent off for a biopsy when it is clearly and plainly Lichen Sclerosus. It is not difficult to make a visual diagnosis. Also, women don't realize that by having the biopsy they are often making matters far worse and it is called the Koebner phenomenon.

Maybe she didn’t know what borax is. Some people don’t know. I associate it with laundry!

Perhaps a biopsy might be useful to make sure you have the correct diagnoses and consequently the right treatment.

Borax works great. Most doctors are very cavalier about this condition. At least this is my experience so far and they really don't know that much beyond Clob in my opinion. I am pretty mad about how I have been treated. I used to think doctors were like a God but that changed in my 20's when they botched up my birthing experience. My son had to have his head x-rayed because the doctor had me push for 3 hours (natural birth) and then a nurse walked in and told me I was too upright in the bed. She laid me backed and my son crowned and started coming out. The doctor came finally but was flirting with another nurse and made me breath through the next 20 minutes so he could talk to the nurse. The other nurse was so upset and later told me so. I finally said to him, get over here I cannot hold this baby back any longer. That is when he cut me to my rectum. Never yell at a doc with a knife. I know I am splitting for this reason. After the birth sex was so painful. I asked my doc and he just said I needed to be streched out. He put his big hand in me and started pulling around. After that I moved from LA up to San Francisco. My new Gyn/Ob told me I had a deep rip in me 2 yrs later that had not been stitched up correctly. Docs lost their halo on that one. I became a Doula for helping other women. Scar tissue does not stretch and with LS I know this is why I am splitting. In 2 wks I go to a Vulvar specialist. I will let all of you know how that goes. I think we all should be going to them or some kind of specialist that knows a lot about this condition. Gyn/Obs just aren't informed enough about this. They tell me good luck and it could be worse. Nothing about what you wonderful ladies tell me! These suggestions on this site have helped me so much. I have tried to tell my last Gyn/Ob about them and she basically ignored it. I feel so badly for women that have this but don't know about these sites. Thank you all!
