Recent Severe Exhaustion

I'm under investigation for CFS but awaiting a sleep clinic appointment as they are testing for other issues. I had two weeks holiday and i'm due to go back to work. I tried to pace myself but it has really knocked me. I got home on friday evening and slept for 21 hours and i've never recovered. I'm beyond exhausted and I don't want to miss anymore work as i'm already on reduced hours. I'm worried about losing my job too. I just recieved PIP payment but it wouldnt be enough if I lost my job. I'm really stressed. Does anyone have any advice on getting better or ways to perk up my energy levels?

"One day at a time" is the best advice I can give you. Right now, you don't have a diagnosis, so it's really hard to say what you should do. It's important to get complete bloodwork done so you can rule out other illnesses. Do you have other symptoms besides exhaustion? In preparation for your next appointment, you may want to Google "ME/CFS symptoms" to see if they resonate with you. If you do have this illness, the most important thing to do would be to rest and pace yourself. Also, and I know this is difficult, reduce your stress as much as possible, in whatever way you can, be it listening to music, deep breating, or meditation. Stress can really exacerbate the symptoms of ME/CFS, and, for that matter, is not good for whatever illness you're dealing with. Let us know what happens.

I've had full blood work done and it was clear. I already had under active thyroid and b12 defiancy but it's all under control.

I saw an ME specialist privately and he referred me for sleep clinic as he wasn't sure if it was possibly narcolepsy.

Just waiting for an appointment but if that is clear then they will officially diagnose ME.

I've tried pacing but it is so exhausting all the time. Nothing makes it better.

If you do have ME/CFS, and are recently diagnosed, it’s super important that you rest. Even though it doesn’t make you feel better, overdoing it can make you feel worse and get in the way of recovery. Now, newly diagnosed, especially within 2 years, is a huge window for recovery.  When I first was diagnosed, I was so exhausted I couldn’t lift up my arm. Gradually, over months, the symptoms lessened. Feeling better, I thought, hey, think I’ll go on a vacation. Bad idea. I relapsed severely. So continue to rest and pace yourself, avoid caffeine and sugar, and distress as best you can. You might find that eating food with protein helps your energy.

Hi Lisa; you just answered my first question re your thyroid....and you say they are now within Normal range....what about the T3/T4  uptake???.....the only other thing that I can suggest is to trial a Concotion of Vitamins (I take Berroca...which has them all....dissolved into my daily water bottle)....however, the worst part for me, is that I'm still lethargic during the day, and seem to have "my burst" of energy at between 6-8pm....when others are wanting to go to bed.....it really is a hard one to sort out......I have had this for about 10 years now, and still havn't been able to sort myself out properly.....always having to Push myself....I know I overdid myself during my working years/raising family....and never knew re this condition/Fibro.....and I still don't think we know much really....it really is a Trial and Error game.......I do know that it has become a case of saying "sorry, can't do that today"...especially when others/kids want us to do the social scene.....we all try to practice The Pacing that we are told to do....but still find ourselves Overdoing it.......are you in a position that you can work from home with your present work/find other work that you could do from home, when you are not so tired?      .......in the meantime, we will watching to see how you progress.......Bron
