Recently Diagnosed w/ Reactive Arthritis

Posted , 10 users are following.

Recently, I have been diagnosed with Reactive Arthritis after having chlamydia. First was the left heel pain, then the mid spine pain, hip, left hip and wrist. I can manage to work and still do my daily activities normally, though I noticed my knee pain is getting progressively worse. I do have a family history of arthritis as my mother has Rheumatoid Arthritis. She's managed to enter remission and it's helping me become more hopeful. I am a 20yr old male who use to be extremely active in body building and working. I just feel as if I will never be the same way again. There are so many "what if's" and the overthinking is starting to take a toll on my health as well. I'm finding hard to sleep, be happy, or even want to get out of bed. Thank heaven that I am still eating normally. Though I know a change of diet would help, I have no idea where to behind. Here's my story. I look forward to hearing from you all. Thank you.

hi, stay positive as 70% of reactive arthritis does go after about 12 months but does occasionally recur.

Diet: easy one: tons of fruit veg and fish, nuts and seeds. TONS of veggies - like 7 fruit & veg a day. after 12 weeks, add back in chicken and eggs. Cut out the red meat, alcohol, sugar, wheat, dairy and you are more likely to be one of the lucky ones that it goes within a year.   you have nothing to lose.... in a years time if you are in the 30%  where it has not gone you dont want to be wishing you had gone on an anti-inflamatory diet.   Up the exercise - keep the joints mobile but unstressed. i.e. pilates and yoga. Not running.  gradually up the pace - e.g. 5% a week max - the joints need weight bearing to release the good chemicals.  Eating 3 brazil nuts a day will give you your daily allowance of selenium a key anti-oxidant. Make sure you have tons of vit c, d and e from natural fruit and veg - especially c.

Wow thank you! I'm definitely going to create a personalized plan based on your reply as soon as possible. This is fairly new, so if I can knock it out before it gets worse then that's great. Thank you again, I will definitely keep you updated on my condition.

Hey chucch11 m sorry to know that u r going through this...even I m suffering from the joint pain...but my doctors are not helping me...

I think that my symptoms can also be from Chlamydia...

Could u plz tell me how did u diagnosed for Chlamydia ? Which test they performed?

Hey Samjo111! So, if you've recently had chlamydia maybe a few weeks ago, make sure you get it taken first. I'd go to the local clinic/lab and take a urinalysis as well as a blood test. Those results will be available within 48 hours, and you'll know if you have chlamydia. As far as joint pain, where is your pain exactly? My pain started at my left heel and was unbearable to walk, then one area of my spine, my left hip, my knees, and finally my shoulder. It feels more bruised and looks swollen in the knee area. I hope you aren't diagnosed with reactive arthritis, everything will be okay. Keep a high head and if you have any questions please feel free to ask. We're all in this together

Hey man, I'm sorry to hear that you're getting these flare up again after so long sad

It seems to me after all the research I've done, you've gotten flare ups again. Which is common with ppl who have ReA. You may have another type of ReA called Reiter's Syndrome, where it causes discomfort when urinating as well. Thing is, we can go into remission but for unknown reasons, flare ups can occur such as this one in your case. I'm getting tested for chlamydia this Friday once again, as well as any other STI's and blood tests too. My throat has been hurting badly from taking an antibiotic a few weeks back. Let me know how you feel man, maybe make another appointment with your Rheumatologist. I'll reply asap

Hey! It's been a while. I'm doing somewhat better. I haven't had any days in which I can't actually get out of bed so I suppose that's well. Some days it feels as if I don't have RA at all actually. I have been put on prednisone for 8 weeks, I've been tapering down with it these few weeks and will be off it in about a week now. I will say that I do have some inflammation some days on my left knee and a little pain in my left wrist but other than that, pretty well.

I have made sure to take all my vitamins daily and as far as dieting goes, I'm suffering financially but I have a meal plan that I'm starting next week actually. I have been working out too, lots of reps with low weight. It really made me feel better knowing I just walked 5+ miles on a treadmill honestly!

Hey! I actually received chlamydia from an ex girlfriend of mine in Feb. as that resulted in pain a few weeks later in the affected areas. Then, I was diagnosed with ReA. For pain, I take one 800mg iburprofen a day, I use to take two. As far as swelling goes, I take prednisone prescribed by my doctor. It really helps but the side effects really do suck, you don't want to take that for too long. I'm actually ending my two month period next week. I can honestly say I'm doing much better. I find that dieting and exercise go a long way.

What I do is wake up early, take my meds, then move around and stretch a bit to loosen up my body. After about an hour, I'm ready for the day. The key isn't to baby your body, but don't put too much stress. The more we baby these areas, the weaker they become. As far as exercise goes, perhaps we can somehow find contact another way so I can give pointers. I use to be a body builder a few years back, I loved it. But I've been so inspired by the arthritis they I'm becoming certified in personal training and a nutritional specialist. It's been known that a strict anti inflammatory diet can help you gain control of your body again, I'm aiming for that. I'm sick of meds and doc visits. I'm a strong believer that nutrition and exercise is the best medicine. I promise it gets better as long as you do your best with diets and exercise

Hey man, I know you're scared. I was too. I've been dealing so much with an ex girlfriend, financial issues, and etc. it sucks having this so young, I know. I'm only 21. But don't be scared, I promise it gets better. As I've been telling other commenters, diet and exercise go a long way. I'm a strong believer that nutrition is the best medicine. Have you seen your rheumatologist lately? Definitely go in for a visit and see if they can put you on some meds. I'll even help you create a diet and workout regimen. I'll be replying daily now btw, sorry I haven't been posting so much

    Hi

I was diagnosed with reactive arthritis in early December. I've been bedridden since as my right ankle and right ring finger have both swollen up . My left ring finger is now swollen as well as my left thumb and I'm desperately searching for some advice to help get rid of this pain for good. How did your experience go so far , and if you could share some useful tips or suggestions I would be so grateful

Do you have any fever, skin rash or joint pain apart from the swelling ?

Pain killers (ibuprofen) are recommended if its just pain. But i would just hold on until you check out the lab tests and get physician advice.
