I'm a 60 year old femail, have had several operations, appendix removed @ 20, a hysterectomy @ 50 and gall bladder removed @ 53. In the last year i've been experiencing a lot of burping, was sent to specialist who has told me i have GERD...However other symptoms came to the fo front, now i've also been told i've got Angina. I'm having problems distiguishing between the 2 as symptoms are same. Burping, chest discomfort. Is there anyone else out there that has same symptoms, and if so how do you cope?

Thanks.....

Yes I take a proton pump inhibitor called omeprazole for GERD. I also have dilated cardiomypoathy (heart failure) and atrial fibrillation. Are you on a beta blocker for your angina. 50% of patients that think they are having a heart attack have GERD.

Thank you for replying. It's just taking it all in, every time I feel unwell, have discomfort which seems to be everyday. I get scared which in turn makes makes situation worse....this came on so suddenly, no time to adjust so to speak. Are you seeing a cardiologist? Or like me just under GP. How long have you had these problems?

      thanks

I have a full cardiology team. Heart failure consultant, electrophysiologist, technicians that do echocardiogram, ECG. I have an ICD (defibrillator/pacemaker) in my chest and I will soon be going in for an ablation to try and correct atrial fibrillation.

I was born with heart defects and had surgery age 8 (I am 46) my recebt problems came back in 2009. I am also on warfarin for clots so go to the blood clinic every few weeks.

I understand your fear and I am in a forum on Facebook for my condition DCM where we discuss and share information. I just checked angina support group for you on FB nothing came up but if you Google it there are a few that will offer you support.

Good luck and let me know how you get on.

I have Angina a lot of people get diagnosed with GERD when it is actually Angina as symptoms/pain are very similar there is always a maybe when I go to A&E and I am hoping they will just do the tests to rule out GERD I am already taking Omeprazole as I take Aspirin daily along with several other Angina medications. I am not on a Beta Blocker as my main Arteries are ok mine is more than likely Microvascular Angina hope you get sorted soon x

When you go to a&e are they sympathetic? Helpful? Do they run tests? I just keep going back to GP not been refererd only seen rapid access nurse, who has made the decisions after speaking to a specialist.  Just given tablets, told to lower cholesterol etc etc.....
