Hi I'm 41 years old and have just been diagnosed with gout. Can any gout sufferers advise me on diet and what not to do? Thanks in advance.

Hi all I just wanted to update ypu with my progress. I visited my GP today after my latest round of bloodtests. Im currently on 200 mg Allopurinol per day. My Uric acid levels are 331. My GP has upped my dise to 300mg to make sure i fall below the required level of 300. Since ive started Allopurinol I've had 1 attack, this was actually before i started my treatment, the attack came on the morning i was due to start. Since then ive had 1 twinge which 1 colchicine sorted out. As for the diet i eat healthy anyway but ive not stopped drinkin beer and ive had no issues. I even drink Guinness which im told is a no no and still no issues. I dont eat loads of bread but again when i do i have no issues.
Im due back for my latest blood teat in 6 weeks. I'll keep you posted.

The battle isn’t over - but I think you’re going to win! Good too that you got a GP who appreciates how important it is to push down the level of urate as far as possible; there are so many that think that 599 is low enough.
Wonderful to hear a positive story - thanks.
Good health - long life!

Morning all
I'm approx 13 months into my allopurinol 300mg per day and i had no issues. Last friday i felt a twinge in my back which got a lot worse when u woke up saturday morning. I took co codomal and tiger balm but put it down to a bad back and shoulder. I spent the day in bed and on Sunday decided to go to the walk in centre. The Dr said its most likely a gout attack in my back, shoulder and bottom of my neck. The pain would make sense as its the same intensity of the pain I've had in my big toe during an attack. I was prescribed naproxen and told to rest. Im gutted as i thought my gout was under control. Has anyone been gout free for so long then had another attack? Do i need a higher dose of Allopurinol?
