Recently diagnosed with herpes! but......

I went to my doctor because I needed birth control and decided I should get a full std panel. Heck why not haven’t done it in years and no symptoms but rather be safe then sorry. Anyways my doctor did a blood test because I had no lesions or outbreaks and it came back positive. Typical person reaction depression hits and how do I tell my spouse. I couldn’t wrap my head around it so I decided to go to a different doctor. Now here where it becomes wierd. The second doctor stated the blood test is not 100% accurate which my first doctor said it was and that the test didn’t specifically tell her what I had but she assumed based off of anti bodies it was herpes 2. The second doctor explains that those who have no symptoms should be tested because fda stated the antibodies blood test would have a 50% false positive. Mind blown and it’s at a planned parenthood not my actual pcp right!! The second doctor asks me what did she say you have. I started to explain that she tested for both which came back positive but she didn’t know which one was it so she assumed genitals. The doctor rolled her eyes and said I wish pcp stop doing this. She stated that they should seprate the tests that way you have an idea of your positive or not for 1 or 2. Long story short I specifically tested for Herpes 2 and guess what????! negative I’m so glad I trusted my guts but now I don’t trust doctors because I had emotional damage behind this

I got tested a back in April, no symptoms ever and my test came back positive. I had to open up to my husband about something that happened to me in the past. Anyway I'm thinking about going to get retested too. At 1st i thought maybe I'm a carrier of hsv2, since I've never had an outbreak before. Until this weekend I read am article written by a doctor and she said that she will not test any patience for hsv2 if they are not showing symptoms. She explained that your body could be building up antibodies to fight off an sickness and that will give you a positive results. Ive read stress is a factor, well my daughter graded last month and I had 15 people in my house, trying to still deal with this, my job is laying people off, my mom was upset all weekend long. And that was a lot of stress and still no outbreak. super happy that I didn't have one but I was worried that it was going to happen. After reading your post I'm going to find another doctor and get retested

You should and explain to them you want your test separate not together. Also after I got the test done I ended up sick the next day with a dry cough and pink eye. That’s when I tested positive the second time I’m feeling better and it’s negative

    Did you test for Hsv-1?

I’ve been with my bf for 3 years never once an outbreak. We were on vacation and I’m not sure if it was just our immune systems were down or what but I had a reaction. I was going into vacation with yeast infection- so treated it as that, finally got back in so much pain. Had UTI as well my doctor had terrible bed side manner and was just like oh that’s herpes. Was in shock! My blood work came back negative for IgG. My boyfriend was positive for hsv 1 but negative for IGM so no knew infection if I understand correctly and now I’m stuck with what the doctors assume is genital cuz of the location. They did a culture test said it came back positive but strand was indeterminate. I really want to know and am having a hard time processing it all cuz my bf and I still having hard time understanding how it even came about. I’m wautibg on 3 months and getting tested again but just terrible.

I’m so happy you wrote about this experience. Any thoughts to mine? And did you test for hsv 1
