Recently diagnosed with Vitamin D deficiency

Hi I have recently been diagnosed with vitamin D deficiency after years of pain and tiredness. I have quite a long history but have had surgery twice on my right foot. The first time was a straght forward bunion op and the second one I am now wondering if was caused by Vit D Deficiency as I was in so much pain after first op I needed the 2/3/4 metatarsals cuttings and replacing into different positions.

I also have Carpel Tunnel in right hand and been told I need surgery on it due to muscle waste, inflamed tendons and slight loss of sensation.

There isn't a part of my body that doesn't hurt and I am a 36 year old female. I am self employed and a mum (which can be very challenging with all the pain and tiredness at times!).

I have been prescribed pre d3 20,000 iu 3 times a week.

It turns out that I had a blood test in 2011 that showed I was low on vit d then so I have spent the past week battling between my GP and hospital to try get the levels and find out who did the original test and find out why nothing was done years ago for me. I am starting to feel fobbed off as no one is giving me a clear answer. The hospital won't give me the answers and told me they have to be faxed to GP which I asked for and after waiting days for this and chasing up twice the GP rang today to tell me they have recent blood test result which showed vit D below 30 if that makes sense to anyone?

They weren't sent the 2011 results so have had to chase up again!

I am concerned after having pain for years that this may have done damage. How long does it take to see a difference on that doseage?

My main pains are in lower right back, back right rib, hips, feet, hands, neck.

It would be great to hear from anyone else with vitamin D defiancy.

I can totally understand your pain. I have been in pain for three years . I always thought it was a back pain issue, i could never realise that this is going to relate to vitamin d deficiency. I got my mri done and every other thing possible to know the reason behind my back pain. I too feel very weak and fatigue, i have pain in my lower back, hips, heels, foot, below knee. I am just 27 now and I started with this severe joint pain when I was 24. I am so tired by the end of the day even if I have a sedentary job. I feel sleepy during day even if I take proper sleep at night. Presently i am thankful to the doctor who diagnosed me with vit d deficiency . I got my blood test result last week only, which was only 17. I am under medication right now. Hoping for a better future which is less fatigue and painless. All the best to you too????.

Hi know this post is old but wondering if anyone is still following? Does anyone know how quick vit d levels can drop? Like if it's 50 can it be a lot less in just a few weeks? Thanks xx

Difficult to say - but there is no good reason for it to be a lot less in just a few weeks. It depends what is in your diet, if you are taking supplements and how much sun exposure of the right sort you have. And age plays a small role.

I too have had aching muscles and bones for the last few years and just lately have felt extremely tired and suffering from head sweating. Recently my Dr arranged a blood test and my levels of vitamin D are very low. I have a follow up kidney function test, not yet sure why, but she is prescribing supplement and I will report back on progress. I knew something was wrong, but no one picked up on this before and have been suffering pain and lack of energy for years now!

      Hi..

Yes the same here.. It kept being put

down to menopause with my problems but finally had blood tests and came back vitamin D deficiency.. I've been on the strongest ones and after two months I've not gotten any better.. Which isn't right..

So I'm having more blood tests to see what else is wrong..

Anyone who is not getting better also need to go back for more tests as there is other problems which need looking into...

Would also like to say that some not all doctors do not know enough about this and other causes.. Two weeks ago I saw my doctor and all that happened was a referral for muscle therapy, when I started feeling worse and worried I saw the Nurse who straight away said I should have been better long before now and she put in for my other tests for rheumatoid and six other blood tests..

      Will update on my situation..
