recently released from hospital with pancreatitis

Hi Guys i guess im looking for some advice/help on my current situation. Im a 29 year old, active hard working male with ( i think ) a drink problem. I can drink up to a 70cl bottle of vodka a day! And have done for around eight years although drinking 70 cl a day has been a more recent thing.
anyway, about a month ago whilst i was at work i began to get a sharp pain beneath my ribs which got worse and worse. I went home early from work doubled up in agony but thinking its probably trapped wind. I finnaly gave up the day after and went to the local walk in center who then sent me straight up to the hospital. After a ct scan i was told my pancreas was inflamed and kept off food and given pain killers morphine etc along with iv drips and what not. I was in hospital for ten days and confusingly suffered virtually no withdrawal symptoms. The doc gave me a 5mg diazepam twice as i felt feverish and had a temperature.
All the while i was in there it didnt bother me about not drinking although i did often think about it, yet hours after i came out i was back on it again. Im angry at myself for giving in as i know i can do without. I have an appointment with my gp this coming week as he has recieved my notes from the hospital. I guess im just after some advice on what to do and what to say to my doctor. My home life and working life is very good most of the time i just cant seem to shake the need of that demon buzz.
Thanks for reading this and for any advice you may be able to give me. Also i wish you all the very best to anyone who is fighting alcoholism also.

Have a look at the forums for information on Selincro which helps calm the craving for that alcohol buzz. I successfully managed to get it on prescription from my doctor but I would advise researching it yourself first.
I'm yet to start taking it but will be soon. Many people have had great results with it.

By connecting to others reading and talking you are going to discover one thing : what you are experiencing is absolutely normal. You have not a personnality problem you have an addicted brain. Going on the net you will discover that these people who cannot stop drinking have exactly the same average personality than everybody else. There is only one thing that differentiate them from other : 80% cannot resist alcohol what ever they try.
I wish you the best of luck in this discovery journey which may take some time but the information is out there.
Oh ! and yes there is very promising drugs which may treat the problem effectively. Connect on BBC radio 4 Inside Health podcast on baclofen. It worked for me on the correct dosage (it varies for every person): the desire for alcohol just stopped. For 2 years my consumption has been an average of 0,7 units per day (mainly with family in friends) and I do not have to make any efforts. Same person, same life - just better.
Good luck.
