I have just started Tocilizumab (7 weeks)Weekly injections. I was on Etanercept for a number of years & my Consultant thought that it should be changed to the newer medications. I am feeling no benefit so far & my RA is really painful. How long will it take for it to start to become effective?

Hi, have just looked on a website versus arthritis about this biological drug and it states it can take between 3 and 6 months to work. Hang in there.... All the best

    Hi Labradors,

I was taking Tocilizimab tablets for a few months and it stopped working. I was then started on Etanercept injections for about 18 months. These stopped working then my Consultant decided that my best bet was Tocilizimab infusions. I have been having an infusion every 4 weeks along with 25mg sc Methotrexate and my RA is more controlled than it has been for ages.

Have you been prescribed adequate pain relief? I hope the meds kick in soon as I know exactly how you feel.

Please keep us informed about how you get on. With best wishes.

    Elspeth
