Recently tapered off of antidepressants (Cymbalta) feeling VERY anxious and depressed.

I finished my final tapering off about 2 weeks ago. I was feeling okay for a few days, but this passed week I have been VERY anxious and depressed, having nightmares and breakdowns nearly every other day. It’s starting to effect my ability to go to work and just to leave my house much otherwise. I’m dizzy, tired, and when I look side to side with my eyes I hear a “swoosh” which is weird...I’m miserable.

Side effects of coming off of a medication? Or is this a sign I need to go back on something? My next psychiatrist appointment isn’t for another 3 weeks...

With the relapse of symptoms, medical guidelines say two things:

    1) if you stop cold-turkey, there is almost a 100% chance your symptoms will very quickly relapse

    2) if your symptoms relapse after you’re taken off the medication in a controlled way, you most certainly should restart the medication at roughly the same dosage you were on before.

You should arrange an emergency appointment, if possible, with your psychiatrist but a GP will also work as the medication will be in your notes and they will be able to prescribe you more because you’re relapsing your symptoms.

    Best of luck.

Thanks! I’m gonna call my psychiatrist on Monday and try to get in soon. It appears to be a relapse of symptoms as opposed to just symptoms of coming off of a medication.
