I tried to get into bed the other night, managed but was so uncomfortable everything ached, back on my chair and 7 full hours sleep. You have to make sure you keep to the 90degree rule recline a bit before raising your legs.
However! As long as the chair has arms, and is high enough your occupational therapist will check for you, if you have family to lift your legs into bed a chair will do. Do not get a manual recliner in case you get stuck.

I had a TRHR in the 28th Aoril.
I also purchased an electric recliner prior to my op. It also has the raise function but I do not use this as it is better for you to use your own muscles etc to get out of the chair.
I purchased it from an online auction site, buy it now for £350.
I am so glad I did as it has been so nice to have my feet elevated. I have not broke the 90 degree rule using this chair.
MOST IMPORTANT - I have had virtually no swelling at all which I have attributed to the fact I am spending most of the time with my legs elevated. I am ensuring that I get up every hour or so for a walk around and also doing my standing exercises 3 to 4 times a day. In addition to this I am now walking between half a mile and a mile a day.
Good luck
