Recovering blister on penis

Posted , 3 users are following.

Around 6 weeks ago i had a blister on the side of my penis. After a week the blister burst and there was a clear fluid, not much of it. I had a sexual health clinic appointment that was cancelled due to the pandemic but was able to go to my GP for a swab. All i was told is that the swab came back negative for it growing? I am unsure what this means. I do also have slight redness on my penis head under my foreskin, that looks potentially slightly bump at points, but very faintly bumpy. Any opinions on what the recovering mark from the blister looks like would be much appreciated. Thanks. image

Right i see, so it's that they couldn't really find anything to do with it because it had stopped growing? To you, does the recovering blister mark look like anything recognisable? When it comes to the likes of herpes, i know they tend to crust over which has not been and is still not the case so it doesn't seem like that is what it could be related to

    Dear liam,

The swab your GP took was likely a bacteriological swab, looking for bacteria like Staph or Strep, etc. That's why they were referring to something not 'growing' because that's how they identify bacteria on an agar plate in the laboratory.

Your sexual health clinic is more experienced dealing with genital conditions and would have taken a virological swab looking for herpes DNA, a very sensitive test for genital herpes.

The best you can do is to monitor the situation and try to get to a sexual health clinic (not your GP) if/when new lesions arise and get a swab for herpes if this is what's worrying you.

At this stage, the photo just shows a slightly pale area with a hair follicle in the centre. Is this correct? So it may simply be folliculitis and we're just making a mountain out of a molehill!

    Rgds,

Thank you for the reply firstly. I am worried it could be herpes, but with the link you have sent that might be the case. It was just the fact that it was a blister that worried me, but I have experienced nothing outside of this one blister. I will monitor the situation and book a sexual health clinic appointment as soon as they are allowing them to happen again. I hope it is a molehill. Again, thanks for the reply.
