15 days ago i had open surgery op.to remove the mesh from a 10 year old hernia repair and have new mesh inserted…I wasn't prepared for the soreness, swelling and discomfort…Fortunately I have a friend who is a surgeon and he said my symptoms are normal..Just to reassure anyone in the same situation….Just don't worry and give it time..How is everyone getting along?

Hi Dave
I had mesh removed in April but didn't get one but in.
It took me about 5 weeks before I got any sort of normality in recovery
But I'm still in discomfort at times I believe it will be a year before I'm back to where I was
Scary stuff why had you to get mesh removed

The hernia had reappeared,,,The previous mesh had split or the hernia had forced its way around the side…..The mesh had bonded to the surrounding tissue so had to be cut away….Not pleasant at all….

I'm 4 weeks out and JUST getting back to "okay" status. "Minor surgery with major pain" is appropriate! And same question - what happened to mesh that you had to have it removed and replaced? Anyone have thoughts on return to gym/weightlifting?? I'm afraid. Thx

I'm back with my surgeon next week to discuss my previous surgery from 2015. Having that horrible ongoing dull pain in hernia repair site that gets worse through the day. Crampy dragging ache inside my bottom, again in the area of my previous surgery. I think it's inflammation or a new hernia - either way the mesh needs checking and possibly removing. I was in hospital for 3 days after my open surgery as I couldn't walk with the pain.. knew it wasn't right at the start. Fingers crossed it will be sorted soon, worried as well about all this talk on the news about mesh being used for surgical repairs. Glad to hear your OK 👍🏻 Get well soon...
