Recovery from inguinal hernia with NO MESH - please help

Hi there,

Had left inguinal hernia repair yesterday with no mesh - at Spire Little Aston hospital by German Dr. Muschaweck.

I'm on day two of recovery and site of incision is very painful. What's worrying though is that when I lie in certain positions I get some very very painful burning sensations across the left of my groin and inner thigh.

I had heard that this can happen with mesh repair but all I read about non-mesh is that recovery should be very quick and relatively painless - I'm worried that my body is not reacting and healing as it should.

Does anyone else have experience of inguinal non-mesh repair? And if so did you have any of the problems I've described during your first few days post op?

I MASSIVELY APPRECIATE ANY HELP AND ADVICE,

All the best,

Liam

Hang in there!  It's bound to be painful at this early stage.  All the superficial nerves will have been cut and you'll have stitches inside so everything has to settle down.  It'll take a few weeks and you have to take it easy.  Use paracetamol for the pain.  I had a mesh repair and it was painful but manageable for about six weeks; I would think it will be similar for you.  Good luck and be patient!

Hi Colin - thanks so much for the reply. I believe the nerves were all in tacked and nothing was cut or removed - but you're absolutely right that there will be internal stitches that need to settle. I guess I'm just worried at the amount of new referred pain/burning I seem to be experiencing that I wasn't before the op. I'll give it a few days and see how things go! I wish you all the very best, Liam

Sounds normal doesn't it? It is an operation, and a 'tension' procedure at that. Offhand, signs of infection would be redness that spreads and gets worse, and progressive swelling. Redness around the incision is totally normal of course. Give it a couple days rest- should be fine!

    hi liamfahy7,

All the best for your recovery!

I'm curious, why did you choose non mesh instead of mesh?

    tks

To be honest with you Donneh I was simply guided my my specialists. I know that Dr Muschaweck is world renowned for hernia work and the non-mesh is her most popular method. I also went on to read that it seems to result in far fewer post operative complications than with mesh - although I fear in my case I may be having some issues. Hopefully it'll all settle down though. Thanks, Liam

Dr Ulrike Muschaweck is the problem here. She is a very careless surgeon.

Her surgery on my hernia in late 2015 left me with sexual dysfunction, incontinence and numbness. Google her with the word "problem" and you will find other cases where her surgery has wreaked havoc on hapless patients.
