Hi all new to this forum so please bear with me,I have just recently recovered from severe acute pancreatitas which I suffered on Christmas Eve 2013 and to cut a long story short I was admitted to intensive care in Wigan for 3 weeks before being transferred to Manchester royal and the pancreatic unit were I spent 6 month fighting to beat infection,my organs shutting down and to many other issues to mention which culminated in me having to have a pancreatic necrosectomy to save my life. Touch wood it appears to have been successful but now am left type 1 diabetic and have to take creon capsules with food for the rest of my life. My sap was brought on by a gallstone and I am just curious if anyone else has gone through the same sort of thing? I now know reading about it in detail since recovering how close I was to not recovering and if anyone is up there they have really looked down on me the last 2 years. Thanks for listening.

Welcome! I'm new myself. I hope you find a specialist that can help you recover 100%. I had pancreatitis and liver disease at the same time and I can relate, that it's certainly no picnic. Interestingly, we were both diagnosed at almost the same time. I hope you've found some relief since. My thoughts are with you!

I'm great in regards to liver disease, but I now have Avascular Necrosis in both hips. It's common with pancreatic/liver disease patients. Avascular Necrosis is the lack of blood flow to the joints and is disabling. To be frank, it's the most painful thing I've ever endured. I hope your issues don't cause joint issues. If you start feeling pain, it's wise to check it out. I am waiting on hip replacements. It can occur in any joint. Thanks for asking.

Wow! I just read your story, you've been through a ton! So did you have to have the surgery that I keep hearing horror stories about?? How long was your hospital stay? Total? And did antibiotics work at all?

Yeah I ended up having a necrosectomy because the brown sludge got so thick it wouldn't drain from all the drains I had in so the decision was made to operate which saved my life. I was in hospital 6 month exactly then came home with 2 large drains which were an irrigation system flushed through with saline . It has took me over 2 years to recover and I am now type 1 diabetic due to the pancreas being basically dead now. The amazing thing is I still have my gallbladder and am waiting to have that removed at some point. I actually returned to icu a few nights ago in Wigan were I was first admitted for a look round as I felt like it was something I needed to do as it was the place I was probably at my worst with regards delerium etc and to hear the sister on ward, who is a close family friend, tell you that she thought you wasn't going to pul through was really hard to hear. Try to stay strong for you both as it's going to be tough but it's possible to beat this horrible illness. Xxx
