Recovery time from laparoscopic large liver cyst?

Posted , 15 users are following.

Hi!  Just had a large liver cyst laparoscopically removed about 9 days ago.  The surgeon also did some resection. Cyst probably about 18cm and about 5 pounds of fluid.  Previously at 22cm and 7 pounds which I had drained, but immediately filled back up, this the surgery.   Feeling pretty good.  No pain to speak of,  just tired, some brain fog and night sweats. Not sure what normal recovery should be?  Anyone with experience that can share when you went back to work, when you were 100% and any watchouts?

Thank you!

Hi would you mind me asking why you stayed in hospital for 2 nights I am due to have a 20cm liver Cyst deroofed soon and I was told I get to go home the same day/ evening as it's a strait forward keyhole procedure. I'm feeling nervous but looking forward to feeling better once it's done. Thank you

I had laparoscopic liver surgery to remove two cysts in my liver, one quite large, at the beginning of February . I felt very tired and still so following surgery, and also feel pain still however not the attacks I was feeling prior to surgery. I felt the shoulder thing after surgery and I think it is a side affect of the air they put in the body to do the surgery, mine eventually went away. Funny though I am having problems with severe foot pain since surgery , seemed like it happened overnight, and also a tingling feeling in my second toe, I’ve brought up the fact about nerve damage to dr. But of course they deny. I don’t know why I would still be feeling pain after they removed?

I hope you are feeling better now.

      Hi,

How is your recovery going! I am going to have a large liver cyst dear roofed key hole it's around 20cm and it's the first time I would have experienced this. Can you tell me how much fluid you had drained and how much it weighed? I am trying to work out how much I am looking at loosing and looking forward to being able to not get out of breath so easily! Thank you XX

Doing very well! Surgery started at 5:05p and was done by 5:20p and I left hospital for home at 6:30p! Did not need to fill the prescription for pain meds. It's been 3 weeks and all I have is a little tenderness at incision sites. Scabbing is almost all gone. I was disappointed in that I lost no weight! Nothing! Doctor drained the cyst and deroofed. I had 2 liters drained in December with a 7 lb weight loss. Go figure. Good luck!

I had a large liver cyst removed two weeks ago that was in the middle of my liver. I only had to stay in hospital for one day. Surgery was three hours long. I have some pain around the laparoscopic site and pain under my ribs hoping all that will go away  soon. Good luck! Let me know how your surgery goes!

Thank you!! Glad you'rs all went well my cysts is taking over the whole right side of the liver and some smaller ones to the left side but they are nothing to worry about so i assume that will be strait forward . The pre op went well and they said it's nothing to worry about just that recovery is anything from 2/ 4 weeks. Have you found yourself with less back ache I get that all the time not sure if it is related xx

I'm new too!! I really appreciate the reply I am due to have mine done in the next 4/6 weeks they will call me with a date soon. I would like to feel lighter as I feel so heavy at out of breath all the time. As it's key hole I assume your left with a tiny scar or not even that ?

5 small incisions - one of which was in my belly button . I gave up bikinis a long time ago so not an issue. I did have my gallbladder out in 2005 - same number of incisions - and those healed completely without scars.

I am having a CT scan tomorrow to see about a large cysts that may be bleeding since I am soooo bloated (plus pain and discomfort under my right rib cage). How were you all diagnosed before having your liver cysts removed and what symptons did you have? I heard that they like to take out the gallbladder at the same time since it is right under the liver, so wondering if that adds weeks to the recovery ?

new to this discussion, been searching for people having similar experience in liver fenestration. Had open liver fenestration done due to PLD. surgery was 7 hours. recovery was complicated and in ICU for three days. Total hospital stay was just over two weeks. Now four weeks post op, still having some abd pain and bloating. Had two weeks of oral antibiotics, taking lovenox and octreotide injections, have two drains in. feeling better will keep posting updates
