Rectal Discomfort After Banding Procedure

Posted , 4 users are following.

Hey, wondering if anyone else has had this experience. I had been dealing with a recurring prolapsed hemorrhoid (or hemorrhoids) for several months. Finally got tired of it and saw a colorectal surgeon who banded two of them. Some improvement so I returned and had two more done. Still prolapsing and finally had two more done. That seems to have stopped the prolapse.

However, often I find my rectum now feels a little "off." Like it's chaffing. Wiping yields a clean sheet of toilet paper so I'm not entirely sure what is going on. The doctor examined me and confirmed I had some irritation and gave me some ointment.

My suspicion is that perhaps there is a very small amount of seepage happening. Has anyone else had this post banding? Does it go away after a bit? It's not the worst, but it feels a little like I traded a terrible problem for a less bad but still annoying one. I'm hoping after a few weeks it'll settle down to something that feels normal. My poor butt has been through a lot and maybe just needs to calm down.

Advice or experiences appreciated!

Just wondering where you bleeding. And if after did you bleed. Am going to rectal surgery tomorrow and am so scared. I just can not stand the bleeding anymore also now on blood thinners so worsen.

Also how painful was the procedure?

I was bleeding a little beforehand, but not very often. Mostly a prolapse issue. Afterward, I definitely bled for several days. And sometimes again after a week or so when the hemorrhoid came off.

Everyone deals with it differently, but for me, the pain was expected and manageable. Got much better after 2 or 3 days.

Make sure to eat plenty of fiber and drink lots of water. Don't force bowel movements. Day One of banding, you'll constantly feel like you need to poop, but trust me, you'll KNOW when you really need to. After the first and second days, it's gets a lot better. Fiber supplements are a good idea. And Miralax if you still aren't pooping.

      Good luck!

Thanks for input. I heard horror stories regarding pain expected. From what read do not think being on blood thinners she can band read something about infection shrink. Both sound pretty painful and I have been bleeding more then usual since thinners .

Pray it all words out with min. pain .

Want to back out of appt but best I face it tired of bleeding.

      Ugh what a conversation right

I hear ya. All things considered, it's still a "minor" procedure. Just give yourself space to rest for a few days!

Just got back from dr. Due to being on blood thinners limited as to what can do. She was able to do injections hopefully will sto bleeding. Also miralax benefiber sit baths. Have to go back in month. at that point she can do injections again if needed. Said would have to come off thinners to do banding etc.

anyone have injections and did it help?

Wishing you complete recovery soon. I've got Grade IV prolapsing, and 2 Grade II internal, but never any bleeding, just a huge pain to keep clean. Also, very very prone to constipation...now taking 1/2 capful of Miralax every day and drinking 90 ounces of water a day. Plus, try to eat lots of soluble and insoluble fiber in my diet, and add in psyllium husk fiber supplement (2 tsp) daily. Had to embrace a whole new lifestyle just to manage bowel, anal, and pelvic problems...but, it is what it is...right?

Saw colo-rectal surgeon...advised the surest way to rid prolapsing is surgery, but he did offer banding. He said I'd have the procedure once to start, then come back in a week to re-band after they'd had a chance to shrink a little from the first procedure. So on the fence about trying the banding....maybe it would work and is worth a try.

So grateful for comments and experiences shared on this site. Thank you for reading, and all the best.

I went Thursday and had injections in. I have been bleeding more then usual.

It is 3 days later and I am very uncomfortable and still seeing bleeding.

i am so upset that I am still seeing blood thought it would subside

i am doing what she told me benefiber, miralax and sit baths with Epson salts.

i thought I would get the bleeding to stop quicker.

has anyone had injections and if so could you share you experience. I am probably expecting quicker results but just would like to hear from some one who has done.

      Help

I did call office day after saying I was still seeing blood but was told it should stop.
