rectal pain

Have on several occasions now had an intense pain in my back passage. Almost like cramp but so much worse. It lasts for about 15 mins but last night it lasted for over 3 hours and only eased with taking strong pain killers, the pain is still bad this morning but not as intense. Have any of u ladies experienced this. I'm terrified something is seriously wrong.

See your doctor jan because any pain should be investigated. It's probably something very simple

Hi matron I phoned my Dr this morning and they said to phone my consultant , which I did, and he is seeing me this afternoon.

Hi matron just giving an update, saw consultant on weds, was terrified of being examined, but pleasantly surprised, no pain vaginally , consultant said everything healing great there are no infections with stitching allok there. He did a scan of my bladder and said he didn't think my bladder was fully emptying. He has ordered an mri scan. And wants to see me in a week. A urine test is showing infection still after two lots of antibiotics. He didn't have a clue wot is causing the rectal pain and suggested stopping the laxido. Now two days later I'm getting constipated again. So frustrating I dispair of ever feeling normal again. X

jan it must feel like one step forward, two back at the moment but hang on in there because there's light at the end of the tunnel. I now remember getting some rectal pain after my surgery but I just put it down to the sutures or the trauma after the operation. It did stop but it was 5 years ago and I can't remember how long it went on for however being constipated wouldn't help. It's a viscous circle.

Hi matron just an update, I saw consultant again today. He said my urine test was clear, and scan also showing no problem with my tummy. So he has said he wants to put a camera into my bladder to see if he can find the cause of this pressure, another general anesthetic, is this really necessary. surely it's just part of recovery to be tender and feel this pressure growth. Has anyone else had this pressure on bladder after five weeks. Please tell me I'm not alone in this.

I think your consultant is trying to rule everything out jan which is good. I know it's another anaesthetic but it will be a mild one and you'll be home the same day.

Thanks matron apart from this horrible pressure I'm starting to feel so much better. is this going to make me feel unwell again. He did say just a light anesthetic and home same day will this be painful, I'm also worried I may get wet another infection having this camera into my bladder. X

It's a shame the consultant can't scan you to get the information he wants because with the procedure you'll be having it will be painful to pass urine at first.

I had an ultrasound scan on Sunday which showed all normal , surely this would have shown a problem. Is this not just part of normal recovery, X

I agree with you that a scan would show any problems but your consultant must be thinking otherwise. The fact that your feeling much better is a good sign but the feeling of pressure is obviously causing him to to want to be absolutely sure there's nothing wrong. You don't have to go through with the examination of course but when you next see him ask him what he's hoping to gain from examining your bladder.

Whenever I have had a UTI any pressure I have felt has always cleared up with the course of antibiotics.

Hi matron I have had two lots of antibiotics now for this with no relief. He said the urine test showed no infection. He wants me in on Monday for this op. so no time to ask any questions now. I also still have this rectal pain/pressure. Is this normal do u think. seriously wishing I never had it done now. X

I can't understand why you're feeling this pressure. If you feel pressure it sometimes means another part of your body is pressing on the area. I presume you are having your bowels opened ok. I'll give it some thought today and get back to you.

Thankyou I actually thought it could be piles but I really don't think it is but have been using pile ointment anyway. Bowels open 2-3 times a day. As using laxido. Which I have reduced to half a sachet as was going so many times with whole sachet. Consultant said stop laxido but I then got constipation, X feeling very low today. X

jan I'm sorry you're feeling so low although thinking of everything you've been through it's understandable. I don't think it is piles but I can see why you thought it could be.
