Rectal pain? Please help

Hi.. I’m 25 years old, normal weight.. healthy ish (except for heart rhythm disorder)

However for the past six/seven months my periods and PMS have been getting worse and worse. Sorry if this is too much information, but I get awful pains shooting up my bum the days before and during my period. They are severe. Especially when I’m making a bowel movement (which are very hard so maybe mildy constipated) the pain radiates down my legs sometimes its awful. Sex is painful, and I get horrible pains at ovulation. I often get mild cramping throughout the month as well, and I’ve noticed my pms symptoms (headache, bloating, irritable) have increased in these last months.

I’m making an appointment next week at the doctors, but ive waited so I could create a diary and every month it’s the same. I was just wondering if anyone else has had these symptoms? And was it endo? Or something else like cysts?

Thank you

    Hi Joanna,

All of those symptoms are very common with Endometetriosis sufferers.  I advise to see the GP and explain everything and ask for a gynae appointment - preferably with one that knows a bit about endo.

Good luck and feel free to pm anytime. I’ve had Endo for 30+ years and 9 months post op (excision of endo and full hysterectomy).

      Hello,

Thank you very much for your reply. I was going to wait till next week, but I think I’ll book an appt for tomorrow as I’m sat in bed in quite alot of pain.  I’ll definitely enquire about a gynae.

What treatment did you have for endo before the Hysterectomy? Do you feel better after your hysterectomy?

      Joanna ☺️

Joanna, they'll probably send you for some gastro tests. For your own sake it's imperative that you find a way out of constipation as much as possible, preferably with water, fiber & maybe some stool softeners. Avoid laxatives as much as possible as you're way too young to have your body hooked on those. You'll hear that from every doc you see.

Yes it all sounds like it might be endo. Symptoms could also fit some gastro issues .

      Hello,

Thank you for replying. I also wondered about it being gastro, but I only get the symptoms about 3 days before my period and then when I’m bleeding. So I’m not sure.

I will definitely try to up my intake of water, I try to add more fibre but ive found it makes me a bit gassy, maybe I should slowly build it up.

It doesn't matter what we think; there will be gastro tests. The same symptoms, yes on those days, can be either thing.

Stool softeners are neither habit forming nor harmful. They're OTC. Take atleast 7 oz water at the moment that you take them. They won't cause gas. Both constipation and diarrhea can cause a lot of gas. Even people with perfect, fiber-rich diets can be constipated. Endo & the possible gastro diseases can also cause it.

Dried fruit can help a lot, any kind of dried fruit.

Hi Joanna. Pain during sex is a typical symptom of Endo. I don’t know if there are other causes but your symptoms do sound like Endo. I have been suffering from it from almost twenty years and still couldn’t figure out the solution for it.

It’s a terrible painful condition which has no cure. Ppl say diet and exercise helps but diet hasn’t helped me much and I do not have enough energy to exercise.

Good luck to u and I wish and pray that u do not get Endo. Please update us on what the doc says.

      Hi Mel, thanks for replying.

20 years of it?! I bet thats been horrible. Do you find painkillers do much for the pain? Ive found paracetomol doesn’t even touch the pain.

I’ll post my update of what happened at the doctors.

    *UPDATE*

So I went to the doctors and told the Dr my symptoms, and the first thing he said was Endo. So he felt my stomach and said I need to have a scan ASAP. So thats been booked in for 2 weeks time. He advised me to get some Naproxen to help with the pain until the scan.

Hi everyone. I normally post in the IC group as I was told I might have IC for 3 years. I had surgery last week and turns out that I had a small patch of endometriosis on my uterosacral ligament. I was told this is a space behind the bowles. After a laparoscopy every bowle movement is painful. When I pass stools there is fresh blood on the tissue and stools. I wanted some advice on if this is normal? Passing stools is a bit painful at the moment. I'm only on day 5 of recovery. Can anyone advise.

Have you asked doc/surgeon/nurse about this? The painful bowel movements don't surprise me but i don't know about the blood.

Hiya I'm nearly recovered from my op. But I get this constipation during my period and pain near rectal area. They found a small patch of endometriosis on uterosacral ligament. Has anyone had this before. I've changed my diet which has helped slightly. But I've not been given any medication.
