rectocele - 8 weeks post op

Wow, the first real web site to offer any useful advice to me, 8 weeks after my op.  I had a hysterectomy 6 years ago, uterine prolapse, and seemed to recover much quicker than I have from this op.  I live in France am aged 60,  a keen gardener and now realise that I am looking at a complete lifestyle change if I don't want to go through all this again.  I thought I was being a wimp feeling so tired all the time, and having to lay down after even a bit of light exertion.    Thanks to all you ladies out there I realise I'm not alone, that I have to be sensible and look after myself, and that I should forget about the housework and the gardening for at least a few more months.   Also good to learn that it's not just me that has become obsessed with BM's - they rule my life at the moment, and no one told me that at the hospital.  The district nurse did suggest that I drink pineapple juice as it has an enzyme that helps break down food in your stomach so I've been drinking lots and she also gave me some sachets of stuff in case I have BM problems.  Hopefully this time next year I'll be able to laugh about it all!  Keep up the good work.

    Hi Girls

I think we all need to take a step back, stop feeling guilty about lazing about and get ourselves better in our own time.  I am now 8 weeks post op and only last week did I start moving round at what I consider a normal pace.  The trouble is once you do that you start thinking all is well with the world and maybe do things you shouldn't, so I'm still having to be VERY careful about what I lift and pull around.  I am driving now, doing light housework and cooking but my husband is still hoovering.   The trouble is girls we feel guilty about taking it easy, it's not in our natures, but  I know for sure I don't want to go through this again, and yes

I think maybe 6 months down the line I might feel normal down below again.

All the lumps and bumps will be swelling from the stitches so I wouldn't worry too much, I felt as if I'd been pummelled by a heavy boxer for the first 5 weeks post op, and am still sitting on my memory foam cushion.

New Year's resolutions all round, take it easy and take care of yourselves.

Hi Gill and Kristy - thanks for the thoughtful responses.  You are right we do expect a bit much a bit soon. Just worrying if you think things will never be the same, ot possibly "cosmetically" worse.  The forum is super helpful so a big thanks to all the ladies posting.

    Hi Ladies

I went for my check up with the surgeon today, 8 weeks post op.  Everything is still in place although he took out a couple of stitches with some very long thin scissors and tweezers after which I had some spotting and now feel sore.  I came away with some pessaries called Polygynax that I have to insert at night which he said would help to calm things down.   He said I still needed to take things easy and of course no more heavy work ever.  I told him I hoped never to have to see him again.    It was a huge relief to know that all was OK, but I still intend to keep taking a laxative powder each evening for the next month until I feel happy about having a normal BM.   Hope you all continue to improve as I am doing.
