Rectocele Recurring 18 mo after Repair

After all I went through with the surgery and complications, my rectocele is back. It's not all the way through to my vagina, now the re's a pocket in the perineum. I have to manually push the poo out again. I'm so unhappy. The original surgery was truly awful for me, the recovery took a solid 3 months when I was told to expect 2-3 weeks, I had complications, and I still can't have sex without unbearable pain. And now the original problem that I thought was unlivable is back. Anyone have repeat rectocele repair? I wonder if going in through the back passage this time would be better, since the vaginal repair is still good?

Hi, so sorry to hear your probs, you have been through a lot. In Jan 2019 I had cystocele, rectocele, perineum tightening and sacrospinus fixation all with a urogynologist - the ssf was very painful on my sciatic nerve, by 4 months I was no longer in any pain but never felt 'right' and now emptying my back passage is a problem which I didn't have before. At a 5 month check in NHS hospital in Wales, UK I was told all was good, but I know rectocele is back. I hope you can get something resolved, I'd be interested to know how another op would be done, good luck xx

Hello, you are not alone. I have had many people tell me it came back. The same thing has happened to me. I had a surgery with an gyne doctor and then one with a colorectal surgeon. Which is where I should have started with. But that is another story. My surgery with the colorectal surgeon was so much worse but it worked. But over the years it started coming back. The last surgery was 11 years ago. It took 5-6 years for me to notice problems starting again. I met a female colorectal surgeon for my colonoscopy and she said that they didn't like to do surgeries again, they always come back. This is what she suggested. A stool softener, and or magnesium and fiber, and plenty of water, and a squatty potty. The squatty potty can be found on Amazon for one. Good luck.
