Recumbent Exercise Bikes

i have been advised to use a recumbent exercise bike for my knees. I had a THR 3 months ago. Any advise on buying one?  Or do your hips/back hurt from one?

Who advised you? I found recumbant hard on my hip so i got an upright. But everythibg has to work for you. Maybe go to your local gym and give them both a try. And any good retailer will let you try several.

I purchased a portable elliptical that can be turned around and used as a bicycle. I don't know if this link from Bob and Brad the most famous physical therapists is allowed, but I'll try

    Hi Linda

I used one prior to  my THR, and found it much better than an ordinary one.  I am only 3 weeks from my THR so have not yet returned to the gym etc,  but I fully intend to start on the recumbant bike first.  No ideas on makes etc though

I've tried the upright and recumbent bikes at the gym ....I prefer the recumbent cause it's better on my knee. But I'm unable to peddle forward only backwards and at that it's a little difficult. I'm 11 months out from hip revision. I dislocated my first replacement 3 weeks later and had to haya total hip revision. Go on line and see what bikes are best. Compare them to ones at gym. I would think gym buys the best as they are used daily all day!! Best of luck to you. L D 🤠

LInda I have used upright bike always.  I also have a very bad Osteoarthritic knee. I found I needed the seat higher than normal after my thr but find I can easily cycle 15 mins at pace.

That's funny, my PT told me NOT to use the recumbent bike as it is hard on the hip joint.  I was told I could use the upright bike, but right now I am restricted to just 30 minutes a day.  I am 5 weeks out from my surgery.  Hopefully I can do more after I see the Surgeon next week for my six week checkup.

    hi linda,

could you try one out first ? I think both are good, but of course, I am not an expert -

maybe find out which one you like better so you will be motivated to use it ?

    how are you doing otherwise?

    big warm hug
