Recurrence Inguinal hernia put life at risk?

Posted , 3 users are following.

I'm Raul, 50 years old.  I have a  hernia recurrence with two lumps and lots of pain, barely walk at end of the day and it is really freaking me out. We have here precary conditions of the health public system, and I depend upon it to solve my problem.

Do I have to make new surgery repair? How do a person know if the instestine is estrangulated enough before that put life at risk? Is it possible a displaced mesh rip the intestine? If so, is there enough time to save the life? I know, I know... I should ask the doctor and I did but it also didn't lead further cause they don't believe that it is the case I am in. I just wonder if it is needed to reach this point to get the attention needed to find out what is happening;

Frankly I fear from complications cause I've through too many doctors and they've said different opinions about what is go in on under the skin. Mostly have said to me that "that everything seems right after that physical exam of pressing air in and touch the area. The last one told me that the mesh is displaced and that there is  100% change the hernia is back. Seriously, I'm lost in all of it. All I know is that I have two protuberances that hurt as hell as I walk or keep standing up also keep me out of work appropriately. Emergency attendances only have give me Buscopan and Voltaren and send me back home.

Would you help me with your own experience? What has worked for you? There is a chance to have my life back to nearly normal. Thank your for your supporting and for taking time to my desperate situation. Raul.

Hi raul, it sounds like a reoccured hernia. Are they soft? Trouble digesting a lot of food or water? If so, I'd consider they are on the serious side. I am not a doctor, but mine was manageable then got worse quickly. The pain you describe is what I've read as possible torn mesh. If you got it involved in the intestine, I'd expect nausea fever and vomiting.

Still be safe, get a doctor you feel confident in.

Hi Bill, howe are you? And thanks for taking the time.

i feel a local pain as similar as to that one I had right before the surgery I was submitted two years and three months ago. The fact is I've never recovered completely. I've had highs and lows and these days It seems that it has reached the boundary point. Something is about to blow  if I continue walking or doing anything that requires movements.

There are two lumps, one bigger and one smaller right above the scar incision and they are hard. Also I've noticed that when I urinate, poop or cough most of the time the big one have a response of pain which I concluded it's because the internal pressure applied to do that activities. Also I've have eaten more lightly like blended fruits and vegetables to ease the bowels pressure hoping it helps. The lumps are only noticeable if touched and pressed locally. I've asked  doctors if they are my intestine and they didn't know for sure, maybe they are, among other possibilities .

I've had certain discomfort at night before sleeping, but in the morning the pain eases. It just increases gradually during the day until reach the point that I  have to crawl slowly to the bus stop hoping I get home safely at that time too. Sometimes I go right to emergency attendency where it is prescribed medicine for urgency pain. And that is all.

Next Thursday I hope getting an Ultrasound Scan (not a Computed Tomography Scan, $ 240.00 dollars which I just can't afford right now,  job and wage is gone for two years and I've been making some money offering guitar classes to pay at least rental).

I don't know if CT Scan is able to revel the conditions of the mesh. But I was told Ultrasound Scan can't because  the web is too thin to be identified. And the only way to know if the mesh is deslocated is through the  symptoms like fever, etc.

I have a surgeon booked on January, 19th 2017 at Public Free Health Care Hospital. This doctor has already examed me and unfortunately he disbelieve I have a hernia recurrence. He told last time that he can't do anything else for me, "Look for another doctor" he told me. I attempted to book another surgeon from the same hospital but the employee told me I just can't do it, so I'm coming back to him again.

I've had appointment with this doctor because I have a friend that works in that hospital. It's hard to believe that the first request I made for a surgeon anniversary two years now and it is stick somewhere into the system health care. They told me to be patient cause it is gonna happen soon.

I am so sorry Raul.  What country do you live in and do you have a public free health care system or do you have insurance?

Either way, you need to get this fixed.  It isn't an emergency unless the intestines are strangulated.  If they are you will be in so much pain.  This requires emergency surgery.  The only way to tell is with a CT scan. You need to demand this scan.  You need to demand attention so you can work. Hopefully, if you stand up for your rights you will get attention.

In the U.S. We pay a lot for health care but those who pay generally have fabulous attentions and hospitals.  This doesn't mean I don't have issues, I just get treated on a timely basis.  I have my same Colorectal specialist who is fabulous and a real nice person.  He explains everything to me and listens well to what I have to say.

I read so so much on this forum where patients are not getting the attention they need.  Many in this country want socialized medicine.  This is why I don't want it.  We do have some kind of socialized medicine for those that can't afford to pay insurance.

Back to you Raul....demand to be seen by a specialist and demand a CT Scan.  They are expensive so probably don't want to give you one. With insurance, I pay a $250 co-payment for one.

Dear Judith14588, I'm glad you answered my calling. I really appreciate it.

I just get myself into circumstances of unexplained chronic pain and incapability to work. I just hope that hope lasts for as long as I live smile

I live in Brazil. And yes, I have public free health care that kinda works but you have to wait no matter you are passing through. Sadly I have no insurance.

I understand that I have to get the CT scan in a short time and I'm looking forward to this. You show me the direction and I no words can thank you enough. I feel pretty lost in all of it, as I told before and your caring is totally welcome. Thank you again. Raul

You are welcome, Raul.  I just fear that this will turn into an emergency situation. Keep an eye on this.

      Merry Christmas🎄
