Recurrent ear infections whilst waiting for eardrum repair during covid 😒

Hi everyone,

Unfortunately for me I sustained a right ear typannic perforation after earwax removal.with an ear nurse.

This was over a year ago, just as we went into the covid pandemic.

I am still waiting for a repair as it never healed. all my ENT appointments were cancelled which I understand , but now every 6 weeks or so Im getting ear infections. ( otitis externa )

As My GP wont prescribe drop s due to the perforation Im being giving strong courses of flucloxacillin.

I keep my ears dry etc , but am getting depressed about the on/ off earache. And the courses of antibiotics which are causing tummy issues.

God knows when I ll get my eardrum repaired.

Have started looking into going private for the repair, but dont know if I can afford it.

Has anyone with a perforation got any advice/tips on avoiding infection ?

TIA

I was just wondering how you're getting on now?

I am in the same boat as you with a perforated eardrum that isn't healing and looking at surgery in the future.

I am hoping you have had a positive outcome.
