Recurrent Hernia or not?

Hi, 13 years ago I suffered an inguinal hernia on my right side which was repaired via open surgery & a mesh. After the surgery everything was fine with no pain or further discomfort.

However over the past week I started getting some similar symptoms with discomfort & aching in the area where the previous hernia was which was also occasionally showing up in my thigh (All felt the same as when I had the hernia in 2001).

I went to my local medical centre yesterday & was examined by my doctos who said he could not feel anything which felt like a hernia. During the examination he put pressure on the area both sides of my groin & asked me to cough & also checked my testicles again asking me to cough (Both while standing & lying down).

Having done all that he said he could not feel an obvious hernia & refered me for an ultrasound which i'm currently waiting for.

However since yesterday i've developed further discomfort but this time with my right testicle. Its not a pain as such but more a general ache/discomfort. Nothing seems to be swolen & there doesn't seem to be anything obvious having done a more thorough check myself.

The left side is fine, Its just the right which does also seem slightly sensitive to touch.

I didn't have this symptom when I had the hernia last time so this along with the doctos yesterday saying he could not feel anything (Back in 2001 my old doctos did the same check & said he could detect the hernia) is throwing me a bit as until now all of the symptoms had been the same as they were when I had the hernia in 2001 (Although slightly more uncomfortable).

I know that the hernia can receed into the testicles & cause some discomfort but surely if this was the case the doctor would have noticed?

Right now its not really major, Just a pretty uncomfortable annoyance.

Basically I'd just like to know if there is perhaps anything else it could be & if there are perhaps further checks I should be asking for depending on what the ultrasound shows?

I have not had the same sort of hernia as you (I am female) but it took 3 visits for my GP to detect my present hernia.  And then the consultant I was referred to couldn't find it either.  It showed up on a scan that he ordered though

    Hope this helps

Trust your instincts.  There is something wrong and hernias can recur.

Through the end of last week my instinct was 100% certain that it was a recurrent hernia as like i say the symptoms were the same as before albeit the discomfort was worse than i remember it been the last time.

The thing thats thrown me off is not just the doctor been unable to detect a hernia yesterday but also the additional symptom of testicle discomfort & the fact that through today i've just plain felt unwell.

I feel like i've got no energy & even though our central heating is on & the house is warm i feel cold & my hands are cold to touch.

I just hope that my ultrasound appointment isn't too far off to get a more positive diagnosis while monitoring how i'm feeling.

It wouldn't be so bad if actually getting to see one of the many doctors our medical centre has was easier & if you felt you coudl have a bit more time with them. As it is its a pain getting an apointment & you always feel your been rushed out the door, Not how it was before our small doctors surgery was absorbed into these new larger medical centre (Iridium Medical Practice in Birmingham in my case) .

Have you been referred for ultrasound then?  If you have, phone the department and see how long the waiiting list is.  If you are stilll worried, write to your doctor explaining your symptoms and asking whether the referral for ultrasound could be remarked as urgent.

You have the classic symptoms of prostatitus and I am surprised the doctor did not check for this. I have prostatitus on and off and can equate to what you are going through. Check the symptoms yourself. Many of us men in our formative years, will have prostate problems.

    Hello,

Maybe this is not the solution you are expecting but it is the best possible solution, ask a priest or a pastor to pray on you.

You shall find relief, trust me i speak from experience.

    Stay Blessed
