recurrent outbreak or uti?

I haven't had an outbreak since my primary outbreak in July. My primary ob was a cluster of blisters, painful urination, and lower back pain. I'm just getting over a severe cold or flu and I know that a lowered immune system can trigger an ob. I also just finished treating a yeast infection with over the counter meds a few days ago. So, with that being said, this is my situation... Currently I have frequently urination (sometimes painful, sometimes not) and I'm irritated down there. This started day before yesterday. Since I haven't had a recurrent ob, I'm unsure if this is what it is or if it's a uti. I did have protected sex twice last week. I haven't had sex since January and my ex and I never used condoms. I'm wondering if my symptoms sound like a recurrent ob or if I just have a uti due to sex and maybe I'm irritated because I'm not used to condoms anymore. This whole "herpes" thing still confuses me a little. :-\

Hi there. I had my first outbreak in May 2014 with very similar symptoms as you. In November I also caught a really nasty cold and my immune system was very low. My second ob consistent itching and tingling sensation with slightly painful urinatiin also. I however did not come out in blisters this time. I would suggest that maybe you are experiencing a second ob as you have been poorly with the flu. Unfortunately I think the two go together. Low immune system = potential mild ob. Hope this helps x

Thank, Lizzie! I surely hope it's not a second outbreak because of the fact that I did have protected sex last night, but the condom broke. It would break my heart if I passed this on to him. I was feeling better down there and back to normal so I never even thought about it until today when I started to feel funny down there again that it could be a mild ob. I do have another question, though.... I take daily suppressive therapy and so I was wondering what I am supposed to do in a case where I may be having a mild outbreak. Do I just maybe up my daily meds to twice a day or just stay with what I'm doing? Or do I go to the doctor? I'm sorry about all of these questions! Lol

Please don't apologise for asking to many questions. I too have daily questions that pop into my head about this delightful gift we have been given ;-) All I can give you is advise on my own experience. Firstly I think I'm right in suggesting that a condom may not give you full protection in passing it on anyway. Even if it broke during sex it's the skin on skin contact that would pass the virus on to your partner. Having said that try not to worry yourself silly as you did not have an apparent ob at that time. I too am on suppressive treatment. The doc prescribes me 400mg of Aciclovir to be taken twice a day. I have no symptoms at all but if I feel a slight itch or tingle then I up them to 1000mg per day for a day or two then the symptoms disappear more or less straight away. If I'm feeling my immune system is low and I'm poorly then I will do this as well. x

Once again, thanks for your quick response! smile I am actually not too worried about him catching it because of the simple fact that the chances of a man catching it from a female is so low and also because I am on daily meds. I feel pretty certain that he is ok, but it was still on my mind today. I will definitely take your advice and up my meds. To be honest, because of the fact that I had frequent urination, I truly feel that I just had a uti and irritation from the condom and/or sex. I do have slight itching, but no sores. I will take a second dose of my meds tonight, just to be sure. I have a doctor appointment scheduled for tomorrow just to be sure, but if I'm feeling better, I'll probably just cancel.

Sassy, there is a 2% change or less chance of spreading to a male, if you use both condoms and daily meds. However, you are supposed to refrain from sex w symptoms to keep the risk lower.

It dies sound like a recurrent. I had mild obs on daily meds twice a month. I started taking a daily probiotic and got the virus under better control and am no longer on meds. 70% of your immune system is on your gut. I've always felt that when it is a UTI, you essentially start to have a strange feeling in your bladder and not a discomfoet just when urinating.

As for taking more meds during an ob, I didn't find it to make a difference really. You could do that, but before I started taking the supplements I do now, I was taking 1000mlgs of valtrex a day and still having symptoms every day and obs once or twice a month.

      Good luck!

What type of probiotic do you take? I think I want to start taking something more natural, but not sure where to go.

I would take culturelle that yiu can get at a drug store now and use till you get your order in. Pearl probiotic ia the beat one to buy online, as it has a capsule that allows it to get past your stomach acids safely and not be destroyed by stomach acids, so your intestines can absorb the bacteria.

Also use clove oil to relieve yourself of any discomfort.
