Hello,
Ive been getting recurrent uti for the past year with all the common symptoms for a uti. Ive been to the doctors loads about them but they just think due to my age its from sexual intercourse. Is there any other reasons for recurrent uti? Any advice would be great. Thank you.

Not completely empying the bladder post void could cause recurrent it's. The residual urine left could act as a base for infection. Ask your GP for a test or scan that shows the state of your bladders post void and the amount of residual urine left in the bladder, if any.

I have urine retention issues (but I'm 67 - I don't think you've said how old you are). As well as scans at the urology clinic, having been taught to self-catheterise, I'm able to measure for myself how much I retain after normal urination and report this to my urologist at out-patient appointments.

There are many reasons for recurrent UTI's, as someone has already said retention of urine is one, my own is a lack of oestrogen after having had a hysterectomy, another is if you don't wipe front to back, it only takes a minute amout of faeces to contaminate & infect, lack of oestrogen after menopause can also contribute towards UTI.

My wife saw blood in her urine which has not happened again for months. She had a cystoscopy which was negative but the surgeon urologist advised that if she sees blood again not to worry and no need to look for a followup. I find that astonishing because are we not advised by the NHS on their expensive early detection of cancerous problems to consult quickly.
The surgeon's advice in writing to her simply does not make sense to me and is the opposite to other medical practitioners advice.
My bad experiences over decades of urinary problems that were not resolved by any doctors have lead mo to distrust them. After two months course of 'strong' antibiotics 9 months ago and a year before that
10 days of antibiotics that resolved blood in my urine these courses must have eradicated an infection because I am totally symptom free. I cannot bring myself to write a book about my experiences but I aught to have done just that. The special 'evaluation' nurse's experience I wrote of in previous post when she said = " don't get me going about urologists = my dad had a catheter in situe 3 months when he did not need it" ! I used to trust many a doctor but my trust has been too profound without validity. Although this is a pity
I feel this has been a learning curve for me and especially as I do not have to get up twice in the middle of the night to pee!
I've also learnt that if a mistake or a misdiagnosis is made it will be put aside because you know doctors do not make mistakes -do they?
Be resolved to finding a solution to any health issues you have. I firmly believe there is a doctor who will listen to you and do all he/she can to resolve your issue. All you want is to feel OK so make sure the doctors you see know this is what you want because it's normal to want that.

I share your concern. A colleague of mine died a while back of kidney cancer. Blood in urine was her first symptom. It wasn't ignored, but they could not save her.
Granted, your wife's situation wasn't ignored and it's reassuring that the test was negative. However, I would have thought there could have been more investigation and explanation offered.

As I said can the NHS afford the overwhelming influx of the thousands that the politicians smile about........ ? In Wales where our caravan is the farmer tells me he never sees one doctor but on each seperate occasion it is a different doctor & even then a stand in. It takes him on most occasions 3 weeks to see a doctor. I find that quite disconcerting because when we were there
40 years ago same day seeing a doctor at the same surgery was nomal. He is just over sixty so he hasn't reached the cut off date as yet like myself!
