Recurring Laryngitis?

Hi all,

ill try to make this as brief as possible; bare with me...

I am a teacher, have been loosing voice on/off for the pst 9 months. Originally thought it was due to the end of the school year but has become a lot worse since Oct. My voice goes (v. husky -speech cones out as a whisper) every thurs/fri up until sun/mon.

I though the xmas break would give it chance to recover but since starting school again in Jan, it has become a lot worse - constantly have a dry throat. One glass of wine seems to destroy my voice completely (i've obviously stopped drinking since i realised this).

Even on days that my voice is 'fine' i cant to hit higher notes when singing (just a hobby)

No fever, no heartburn, can eat/drink normally.

I have been referred to ENT specialist, but cant get an apt until next month.

My question may not be answerable but i just thought i'd ask anyway because I cant afford to take any more time off work...

Any ideas as to what this might be? Or how long something like this may take to heal? Voice rest doesn't seem to be doing anything. But as a teacher, obviously, I need to know what to do in terms of continuing to teach.

Should i continue teaching until my apt? or would that be seriously damaging my voice even further?

cant afford voice rest VS don't want to damage my vocal chords forever.

It's become a bit of a nightmare!

ANY advice at all would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks so much.
