Recurring Shingles.

I have had what has been diagnosed as recurring shingles for many years now - perhaps 10. It is cleared with Aciclovir after a few days of taking the tablets. I have a spot on my right buttock, and numbness all down my leg, along the nerve. I had tests at the John Radliffe hospital and they took a swab, and confirmed it was the herpes virus, and therefore shingles, but everyone says it should not reoccur. I get is about every month or two.

Hi- I see u have shingles that reoccur- I was wondering if this was a bad sign or something because all the research on internet says it should not occur again unless you are elderly or have HIV or Cancer- Its freaking me out because I had my first episode a couple of months ago and now its come back- not painful as much as it is itchy- just curious to know if you are otherwise healthy? I am begining to wonder if I should get tested for some other disease because my shingles are reoccuring.

I as well, have had recorring shingles for nearly 10 years as well. I get it at least once a month either when i am stressed, or sick, or anxious, or sometimes it just breaks out for no reason. I don't have cancer, i don't have HIV or AIDS, i am pretty healthy except for this shingles. I am only 19 years only and get a band across my back about every month (like i had said earlier) so although research has said that (a) people only 50 or 60 or 80 are most apt to getting it (b) COMPROMISED IMMUNE SYSTEMS, HIV/AIDS, and cancer are reasons for shingles and (c) the fact that it doesn't recorr- or if it does it isn't on the same spot.... well i am living proof it does happen. I dont think shingles is really too selective on its victims, but i do feel for everyone who goes through this pain.. if you do that math.. ten years of shingles means all ten years are practically full of pain because I never really get time to recover from the last break out to prepare for the new one... the PHN is always there... always hurting...

From what I read shingles doesn't reoccur unless you have something worst. But I'm a healthy (maybe a 40 pound overweight maybe)and active 42 year old woman. And I've had shingles for at least 12 years or so, with episodes every second months app. (after menstral cycles). I've tried the meds they prescribed but they didn't help all that much so I just deal with the pain. Any suggestions on natural products that could help? Thanks, Ann
