Red and sore 6 months after surgery

hey y'all, i broke my ankle in 3 places(trimalleolar fracture) back in May. i had surgery the end of May where i had a plate, 11 screws, and 2 tightropes put in. All has been great with the healing and getting back to normal, but last night i noticed my ankle was extremely sore. When i started looking and pressing around, its like the soreness is on the very last screw in the plate down to the bottom of the plate. Today, its pretty swollen and really red on pretty much my whole ankle bone(fibula bone). Is it possible it could be infected after 7 months? Im not sure if there is any correlation, but yesterday i stepped off of stepping stool from the top all the way to the ground, and it felt like it kind of "jarred" my ankle, but it wasnt hurting or anything? Any thoughts as to why its sore, red, and swollen? And do you think i should be concerned?

thanks so much,

Courtney

I would call the Dr right away. Better safe than sorry. Good Luck!

I have heard from a friend of mine whose father is an orthopedic surgeon that the screws can be pushed out or loosened in a way... Possibly the step down was hard enough to push the screw out? I would check with the doc for sure!
