Red eye (dry eye) after shingles

I was diagnosed 10 weeks ago with shingles and unfortunately it was on my head, forehead and around my eye, which was very painful and uncomfortable, My vision is ok  but I keep getting a very sore and pink eye, and have been told at the eye clinic that it is dry eye and I now have the same type of  drops that I was given weeks ago. Has anyone else experienced  sore itchy  eyes so long after getting shingles and if so, any idea how long it lasts? my eye gets SO itchy and sometimes I have to rub it which I suppose is just making it worse!! There seems to be nothing i can put on my eyelid to stop the awful itching!!

    Hi Jane

    I think that you need to get this checked out by visiting an ophthalmologist or optometrist to double check. It may be the case that the shingles is lingering but the only safe way I feel to proceed is to get your eyes examined. Hope this helps.

      I have been going regurlarly to the eye clinic, and they always just tell me it is dry eye and then give me drops, I saw my own Dr but nobody really seems to help, they just tell me that the problem can go on for months after shingles, it certainly is something that ruins your life! I now have to wait 7 for an orthoptic assessment, and hope that i can also find out the cause of my double vision that I get on waking and sometimes again later in the day. I never had any trouble with my eyes before shingles!!!

    How is your eyes now?

    i also had herpes zoster but after treatment i have little vission loss and eye redness .The doctors are giving me eye drops and telling me it will be gone after few months.

      Hello, sorry I have only just come back on this site, it is over 2 years now and no improvement!! my eye is so sore, pink and tiching, and my eyelid is itching so badly too, I have tried all sorts of creams but nothing seems to work, I just can't believe this has never gone!!

    hope u are well now. i'm 21 y/o and last yr i had the shingles on the right side of my eye. the doctors also told me to keep on using eyedrops. even the margin of my iris is not complete bcs there's scars. and if i'm tired, my eye gets red easily, i get this discomfort & even my head throbs.

    this is really affecting me especially when i go out socializing. i know i should be thankful i didn't go blind but i really wanna know how u are doing now. sad

      I too am still suffering with the same problems as before, My eye has really flared up this week, stinging, burning feeling and SO itchy in my eye and on my eyelid and forehead, just where the rash was, I do feel concerned as I dread shingles returning sometime!  I have a small scar on my cornea,Poor you getting it so young, I am 66 and it was bad enough when I got it over 2 years ago, When did you have it and do you find anything helps? I am on all sorts of things eyedrops, and a gel at night, I also take 2 antivirals a day to prevent shingles returning, just hope it works!! I still go to the eye cllinic every 6 months, do you still go there?
