Red eye for years

I was hoping someone might be able to shed light on my issue as I've seen doctors and specialists 10+ times and they have been very dismissive. Long story below.

Get foreign object in my eye while surfing. Afterward have pain, redness and impaired vision and it felt like I had sandpaper in my eye.

It took the doctors 6 weeks to find the object and remove it. In the interim, they kept saying "We think you have pink eye" and I would say "No...there's something in my eye". After 3-4 trips, they finally found it.

After this my eye was bloodshot towards the inside portion. There was nothing extreme but it was noticeable to me.

It is now 2 years later and my affected eye gets fire-engine red when it is exposed to stress. Stress can be driving with glasses at night, not getting enough sleep, surfing, being in windy conditions, etc. It will stay red for 7-10 days and then go back to normal. Sometimes it will have "gook" around it when I wake up but this doesn't always happen during these affected times. I have seen the doctors 10+ times including multiple trips to a specialist. Every time I am told that the pressure in the eye is normal and that "sometimes red eyes just kick in". I've used drops, antibiotics, etc. and nothing fixes the issue. It might get better after an antibiotic but then it goes bad again when stressed.

The issue never goes over to my other eye (ruling out pink eye or other infections). I NEVER had an issue prior to the initial surfing event and now it has been 2 years of this.

Thoughts? Anybody have ideas of what it might be? I'm going to start down the road with different doctors and specialists but at this point I'm looking for help anywhere. I know something is wrong with the eye...I just can't find a doctor or specialist that agrees or that will look deeper than "pressures OK...probably just red eye."

Thanks in advance

Is it possible that the foreign object was in fact several pieces and there is still some debris embedded in the eye.? Just a thought.

It's worth mentioning this to the doctors. I don't think so as the irritation occurs intermittently now and when there was an object in the eye, the pain/irritation was constant.

      Thanks
