Red foreskin and head blotches

I've had this problem for about 7 years now where I get a redness on the foreskin and that seems to have mirror red blotches on the head. It's not itchy or sore, I'm totally unaware of it apart from its appearance.

I've seen two dermatologists and a couple gps. Both dermatologists seemed to think it was lichen sclerosis just by an eye exam, no samples were taken, and that was based on looking at photos as it was typically quite calm come the appointments. Certain creams like pro topic calm the redness but it's temporary and not a cure. The best way I've found to keep it calm is to sleep with my foreskin retracted and then it tends to be fine during the day but I've also noted that it can come and go in the space of a couple of hours, it can be very red on the morning and then by midday it's seemingly gone without me doing anything (not every time though)

This year out of desperation and thinking it resembled thrush I took the Fluconazole one pill and for nine days after it was fine, even sleeping with the foreskin in its natural position (normally I'd be lucky to go one night without a flare up doing this) but then it returned and I was gutted. I saw a gp and told them this and I'm now on a weekly course of Fluconazole for six months but as you can see from the pictures it still present and I'm in my second month (the initial impact seems to have worn off) . I've also used nizoral cream on it which has a calming effect and is used to treat thrush etc but it hasn't cured it

Soap seems to irritate it, even sanex soap but I worry about the cleanliness of just using water

So I'm wondering if anyone can shed any light on what it is or experienced similar.

    Hello Matt,

Have you been diagnosed LS, and by two dermatologists?

yes, as i say only by them looking at photos tho, the problem i have with it though is that whenever i look up LS the description of it or pictures of it look nothing like what i have , thats why i have my doubts, and a,so why would it seemingly respond to thrush / fungal treatments

If you did get a proper diagnosis, written in your journal, you should trust your physicians and follow their recommendations. Especially if its two of them, making the same conclusions. A specialist is of course more qualified than a GP. Would you post the pictures shown to dermatologists, if you still have them? I have a LS diagnosis and my condition looks similar to yours.

I'd like to add something to my previous post – your photos are taken with a flash, right? I'm pretty sure that threw me off, since it makes all of it look whiter than it would otherwise.

    Hi Matt

I think It does look like LS so you should really go back to the dermatologist and follow the treatment that they suggest you could also see a urologist for there opinion.

Neither of them gave me any treatment apart from using Pro topic to dampen any flare ups down. As I understand it there is no cure for LS apart from circumcision?

OK if the treatment is not helping you should go back to the dermatologist and see if they have any other creams that might help or maybe some other treatments. It may not be possible to cure it but it does need to be managed. You may need to consider having a circumcision to help keep it from spreading to the urethra.

Looks very similar to my condition on the prepuce at least - diagnosed as LICHEN PLANUS. Yours doesn't seem to show the characterisitics of Lichen Sclerosis where whitish skin develops.
