Red, painful scratch like marks

just discovered them today, very painful to the touch but i do not remember scratching 
picture does not show how red it is as i had to compress the image

Keep it clean and use a moisturising cream on it especially for dry skin. If you can get hold of Cerave cream its excellent. You may have scratched yourself in your sleep. Do you sleep with a dog or cat? Could they be responsible?
If it continues to be red and painful and especially if the redness spreads then do try phoning your doctor for advice.
