Red rash on scrotum with open lesions. Is this herpes? (Not sexually active) (Attached photo)

Today my balls were itching as as was sitting at my desk at home, so I scratched them not thinking much of it. The itch wouldn't go away so I kept scratching them repeatedly where I thought the itch was. When the itch wouldn't go away after vigorous scratching, I thought it was more than just a random itch and decided to have a look. I saw that there was a what looked like an open sore on my scrotum near the base of my penis and I got really scared. As stretched the skin on my scrotum around the area of the lesion I could feel that there was moisture. There were no tiny blisters in or around the area. I touched the area around the lesion and noticed two other small lesions which seem to just appear. That's when I really got nervous. I shaved the area around the lesions and noticed what looked like a rash line with erythema which radiated to the bottom of my scrotum. The very bottom tip of the scrotum was darker red and had dry ashy looking skin in just that area (about the size of a nickle). That area was also itchy, but barely. I showered and after the shower the lesions or any part of the scrotum did not itch anymore. There was no associated pain except when I put shaving cream on the big lesion. After drying and exiting the shower, I put on clean underwear. I checked the lesions periodically. The big lesion had slight moisture drainage because the immediate area around the lesion would be wet when I touched it. The moisture had a serous quality to it, and didn't appear to be blood when I dabbed with a tissue. Since I did not see any tiny blisters, I am unsure if there was just a rash that I scratched too hard and broke the skin, or if there were blisters and I scratched them so hard that I scratched them off without knowing it. I'm really hoping this is a fungal or bacterial infection. I know I have had jock itch before. I have not had intercourse or skin on skin genital contact in the last two years. I am freaking out because my roommate who is also male, has HSV2 and we share a bathroom. If I have herpes, then I most certainly got it from the toilet seat which my scrotum touches when I have a bowel movement. This would be a medical anomaly. Any expert opinion is appreciated.

I was examined by a doctor who said she didn't think I had it. She also swabbed me but after a few days it doesn't appear to be herpes.
