Red spots on labia majora

Hello everyone,

I've decided to share something that's been worrying me for a while. Since the end of January I've noticed that my skin down there (the labia majora mainly) has been very dry and flaky. It became painful when one day after having sex with my boyfriend (we've been together for almost 2 years) a tear appeared on the perineum. I applied some creams etc. and after 3-4 days it was healed. I told him about the situation and we didn't have sex for about 2 weeks. Last week we went on a holiday. When we had sex the first night I wasn't very relaxed and wet because I was worried it would happen again and I'd disappoint my boyfriend. It didn't happen but the condom we used dried me even more and the sex wasn't very pleasurable. What I noticed after that though was that the area around my vaginal opening had become itchy and burning with red spots. I thought it could be because of the condom (honestly I've NEVER liked this one and I've never had a good reaction to it but not that severe as it was this time) and the friction. The next day we had sex without a condom and everything was fine - no cuts, no spots, no burning or itching. Since then we've only had sex without a condom and it feels much better. The thing that's bothering me is that those red spots on my labia majora still appear on and off since last week and actually become visible when I take a very hot shower. I put creams and/or coconut oil on them and after a few hours it looks like they're gone (at least they're not red anymore). They are flat, no pus, don't sting or hurt, don't really itch and definitely don't look like blisters. Basically if I don't look with a mirror I wouldn't notice they're there. Also, since applying daily coconut oil on the perineum the skin doesn't crack during sex which is a relief.

So what could be those spots? After reading so much stuff online of course at first I thought it could be herpes but the spots don't look like blisters or wounds at all, my boyfriend doesn't have anything and this is not the first time we've had sex without a condom. Now I think it's more of a skin condition which was probably triggered by the shaving, wearing thongs and a bad reaction to more lubricated condoms + it's winter and my skin feels dry everywhere, rather than a gynecological problem (I have no other symptoms really - no stinging when peeing, my discharge is minimal and usually clear white or slight yellow, don't have pain during intercourse etc.). Still I'd like to hear what you guys think this could be and if I go to a doctor - should it be gynecologist or dermatologist.

Thank you in advance!

    Have you got tested?

      No, I haven't been tested.

Also, the cream I mentioned is used for diaper rash and the spots are almost immediately not visible after applying it (usually after a shower). When I touch the skin it doesn't feel like there's a bump, it's flat. Could it be a reaction to friction/hot water? Or something like a rash caused by dry skin?

I would go see a dermatologist to get a professional opinion. It doesn’t sound like an std in my opinion. Seems like the skin could be irritated or you may dealing with a case of folliculitis and dry skin. But that’s just my opinion.
