red, swollen, bump on toe?

ive had this bump on the top side of my big toe for years and it would only hurt every time I’d stub it or kick a ball or anything like that, normal stuff. it’s red and inflamed and hurts to put pressure on it. never gave me problem at any other time but I’ve always taken note that it was there. recently have become more concerned with it since it’s been giving me more problem than usual. does anyone have an idea on what it may be and may or may not have any remedies? I don’t wanna go to a doctor if I don’t have to. thank you!
